Chapter 7: The Past behind Zoey
Zoey's POV
When I arrived at Cross Academy I didn't know what to expect. Heath and I have been moving from place to place killing off vampires that become Level E. When we heard news of Rido Kuran and some new vampires at Cross Academy we decided to look into it. That's how we ended up here. Heath and I are old childhood friends. When his parents died my parents took him in. Angel was separated from Heath and sent to Cross Academy. I can't believe Kira and Miruna go to Cross Academy; I remember Kira saying how she would never go to a school. I remember the first time I met Miruna and Kira I didn't like them.
Flashback
I was ten years old and walking around outside. "Zoey," my brother hollered to me.
"What is it Derek?" I questioned.
"Do you want to go walk the trail like we always do?" Derek asked me.
"You remember what mom said. She doesn't want us to go far," I reminded my brother.
"C'mon sis, since when do you follow the rules," my brother challenged.
"Fine, race you there," I replied and run off towards the trail.
Next thing I know my brother is running right next to me. "C'mon sis you are going to have to be faster in order to beat me," my brother mocked.
"You're not beating me this time," I replied to my brother with a smirk.
I started running full speed to the trail. I stopped at the trail and my brother stops next to me. "I think I beat you," I mocked.
"You got lucky," my brother replied.
"There is no such thing as luck," I stated.
I couldn't have been more wrong though. I learned later that day there is a thing called luck. My brother and I start walking the trail. We make it to a lake at the end of the trail. Next to the lake is a meadow. Walking over to the lake I look down at my reflection in the water. If I think about it it's funny I haven't drank human blood before. My parents make us drink these blood tablets they taste awful. "What are you thinking about Zoey?" Derek asked me.
"Oh nothing," I replied.
Before my brother could say anything we hear a twig snap and footsteps running towards us. My brother and I make a run for the tree lining we were far enough back no one could see us, but we could see clearly. I see two girls about my age run out of the forest. "Kira slow down!" one of the girls hollered.
"No, I want to get there before someone else finds it," the girl I was guessing was Kira hollered back.
"Someone probably did," the one girl stated.
"Who are they?" I thought to myself not realizing I said it out loud.
"They are Miruna Fournier and Kira Star they live not far from here, and they are best friends," my brother stated.
"How do you know that?" I questioned him.
"I might have ran into them recently," my brother replied nonchalantly.
"What are they looking for?" I asked him.
"These," my brother said holding up two necklaces with lockets on them.
Both necklaces had a ruby in the center of the locket that looked like the color of blood. They were really pretty necklaces. I look at my brother quizzically. "Damn it someone already took them," I heard Kira curse under her breath.
"Calm down they could have been moved," Miruna stated trying to calm Kira down.
"No, I know for damn sure someone moved them," Kira growled.
