      America's POV:

I was looking at the pile of work that had to be done laying on my desk wonder how I was going to get it done, when I suddenly got a knock on the door of my office. Curious who could be knocking on my door during work times, I opened it only to discover Mary, my maid. Mary was pushing a tray of tea and strawberry tarts coming to my rescue.

"I thought you could use a break," Mary states"and apparently, so did someone else."

Mary gives me a knowing look when she hands me the envelope that clearly has Maxon's handwriting on the front saying To America: I thank Mary quickly wanting nothing more than to see want my husband has in store for us tonight. As soon as I hear the door close, I tear open the envelope to find a date proposal written on the paper.

        Dear America,

We have been ever so busy for these past couple of weeks. I need a little break and I have a feeling you do, too. I want to talk to you about something that's been on my mind for awhile now. Join me for dinner out on our balcony in our room after work.

  Love,

  Maxon

We used to go out on dates a lot, but he is right we haven't done it in awhile because of our busy schedules. Maxon and I would use dates as a way to motivate us to get all our work done on time. If we finished early we would have dinner out on our balcony. Excited for our date, I section off a stack of papers on my desk making it my goal to finish this before our dinner date.

********

After two hours of doing nothing but paperwork, I finally finished my stack of work to be done before our date. As I approached Maxon's office door, I decided to open it gently and sneak up behind Maxon. Wrapping my arms around his waist and kissing Maxon's sweet spot ( right below his earlobe) made him turn around surprised.

"Wow, I didn't expect you to finish this early," Maxon says

"Well when there's a date at the end of my work day you should expect me to finish early." I whisper in his ear as I go to kiss directly below where his jaw starts.

"I'd say that you are excited for this then?" Maxon asked

"Yes, I am. Shall we get going to the balcony now?" I ask

As Maxon and I walk toward the balcony I can feel Maxon getting tense and worried about this particular date.

"Are you okay?" I ask

Maxon can see that I spotted his nervousness and quickly tries to hide it, but it is too late I have already noticed.

On the balcony, there is Bucatini and tomato sauce waiting for us. I take my seat and Maxon takes his. As we eat our food we talk about what we accomplished during the work day, and what we plan to do tomorrow, as well as what's going on in other countries. As our plates are almost empty, and our conversations die down Maxon decides to change the topic to something more serious.

"Look, America I know we have only been married for two years, but I feel like the time is right to ask you this."

"Okay Maxon, I am ready. What do you want to ask me?"

"Well, I just- I thought- maybe... "

"It's okay Maxon" I say as I grab both of his hands in mine as I try to calm his nerves" you can ask me."

Maxon takes a deep breath and begins" Well, today I was doing paperwork in my office when little Kile came into my office and sat down on the floor next to my desk. I didn't even notice until he took out his apple slices and peanut butter and began to chew. I heard him chewing and said hey Kile I didn't even see you there. Kile just starred at me with those beautiful big eyes and just continued on chewing his apple slices. I decided to take a break and clear my desk so Kile could sit in my lap and eat his snack. We had a wonderful discussion about Kile's favorite mid-day snacks. He was almost done with the peanut butter and apples when Marlee came in apologizing about Kile disturbing my work. I said it was a good break and thanked Kile for it."

"Awww that was sweet,Maxon, but how does this relate to our lives?" I ask

"Well, as I was resuming my work I realized that there were peanut butter fingerprints on my glass desk. Then I remembered my promise to you. A promise of peanut butter fingerprints and lazy weekends. It just got me thinking that I want to start a family with you. I want to have a child with you."

Was he asking me for children? My face turned serious and my lungs couldn't get enough air. It felt like the first night of the selection all over again. I didn't have control over my body. It was like watching from another person's eyes. All I saw was Maxon's worried eyes scanning me knowing he had asked too soon. My body acted before I could think and my legs sprang up from my chair and ran to the only safe place I knew. The gardens. It didn't matter how many times I told my body turn back, turn back, you are leaving Maxon. They just ran faster and faster down many flights of stairs. It didn't matter how many as long as they took me to the gardens. Finally, My legs reached the final step and sprinted to the place I first got to know. The bench. Our bench.

I could see Maxon through the windows of the sixth floor trying to reach me. To comfort me. My body wouldn't have it. I just ended up collapsing near the bench. With so many emotions traveling through my mind that the only way I felt I could get rid of them was by crying. That was when Maxon reached me and sat down on the bench.

"I am sorry. It was too soon. Damn it. I knew I should have waited."

Maxon cursed at himself. Soon, he got on the ground trying to comfort the still sobbing me as he rubbed soft circles on my back the way I taught him to all those years ago.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Maxon questions

I just shake my head No and hope that's the end of it. Thankfully it was.

That night I could feel the iceberg between us as Maxon cradled me in bed. The tired me from all the crying, from what was supposed to be our dinner date.

This is my first Fanfiction ever so I would greatly appreciate constructive criticism or any comments
