KATHERINE'S POVThe phone started ringing "Yes?"...............
"Am I talking to Agent Katherine White?"
....an Agent? No one has called me like that in a long time.
"Yes, that would be me."
"Hello my name is Erin Strauss and I'm calling from the BAU -"...
..."I'm sorry I believe that you're mistaken, I'm no longer an agent."
"I'm calling you to offer a job. You'd be joining Agent Hotchner's tea-"
"I'm not interested, sorry." I blurted out quickly.
"Please would you at least considerate it? It would mean a lot to the BAU."
I was upset and getting angrier. After all the favours I had done for them the BAU betrayed me and now they're calling me, asking to become an agent again.
"Can I ask why such a sudden interest in me?"
"Ms White, yo-"
"Its Doctor White"
"I'm sorry, Dr, You're young, the BAU needs more younger blood and you're on top of the list. I understand your past issues with the FBI, but I can guarantee you that the new team will never let anything like that happen again, ever. And if that's not enough I'll personally make a promise to look out for you."
"I appreciate your intentions but that's not needed" I wasn't mad at Strauss, I was mad at my old team, but maybe this time it would be different.
"Please, just think about it, call me back by Monday and tell me your final decision." and with that the line went silent. She always had to have the last word.I was supposed to fly in Egypt next week for work, for four months. At least four, last time I stayed there for almost 2 years. Well this was my work after all, I knew what it would be like when I applied to work for the Institution of Egyptian Art and Archaeology as an archaeologist.
"Allo".
"Raphael!" I said enthusiastically when I heard the blond haired French man in mid thirties pick up te phone.
Raphael was a professor in Egyptian Art and Archaeology institution, he was also an archaeologist, my mentor, coworker and close friend. I could trust him with my life.
"You called me earlier, sorry I couldn't pick up, I was busy."
"Kat, there's something we need to talk about." I took a few seconds to answer, there was sadness and disappointment in his voice. A confused smirk flashed on my face
"About what?"
"About going to Egypt, our flight will be cancelled."
"Why!?"
"The terrorism levels in Egypt are increasing."
"Oh when have you ever been afraid of terrorists before?! Raphael its nothing!....You're one of the excavation organizers, can't you do nothing about it?"
" Katherine, this WAS MY decision, going with the big group would be too risky. I'm sorry Kat."
I now understood that there would be no chance of going "So what, I'll be sitting between the Institution walls for how long more?"
"I don't know Kat, look I gotta go now, bye!" and with that he ended the call. "Bye..." .There's no way I'm gonna read and fill the paperwork in the Institution for who knows how long. That would be boring as hell, and I get bored pretty easily. Mabey I'll take the job in the BAU after all.
****5 days later ****
The clock. The clock on the wall. Tik-Tok, TICKING, it made me crazy. It reminded how little time ago I arrived. How long more I'd have to spend in this big office of Strauss'.
"I knew you'd come around. I know you'd like to leave already, but agent Hotchner will be here soon.".
5 minutes after, a suited up man arrived.
"Agent Hotchner" he said as he stretched out a hand for me to shake "Nice to meet you Agent White."
"Same here."
Strauss joined the conversation "As you already know Dr White, this will be your unit chief and supervisor from now on." I nodded acceptingly.
Hotchner spoke up "A Dr?"
"Yes, I have PhD in archaeology , but I'd prefer if you'd call me an Agent."
"Okay Agent White".
"I'm sorry, but when I called you, you insisted me to call you a Doctor?" Strauss was full of curiosity.
"Well, I wasn't an Agent back then, was I?" I saw a little smirk growing on Hotchners face when I said those words.
"Well, I believe you and Strauss have already talked about everything important that should be mentioned, so I wish you good luck and see you in Monday." the only man in the room spoke, as he broke a little awkward silence while Strauss nodded, showing her agreement.
"Till Monday then" and with that the I stepped out of the office.Monday came pretty soon and I made my way towards the BAU. To my surprise I wasn't as nervous as I expected to be as I opened the glass door to my new workplace on sixth floor. But it didn't open. I tried one more time, but it just didn't open.
Great, everyone from the other room were eyeing the struggling me. I watched them all with confusion and a little bit of disrespect escaping my eyes. Why won't anyone help me?! Of course, maybe cause I was PULLING the door what was supposed to be PUSHED. I felt my cheeks turn red as I realized my stupid, awkward mistake.
I pushed the door open and stepped into the room, where I tried to get in 2 minutes ago so desperately.
How am I supposed to solve cases by criminal geniuses, when I can't even figure out how to open simple UNLOCKED door!?
Everyone had smirks on their faces staring at me as I opened my mouth to say something in my defense, but then Hotchner came with a fiery walk, interrupting our awkward gathering:
"We have a case!".
