A week and a half had flown by and everybody was slowly adjusting to the lifestyle at Blue Isle High. The basketball and track teams had begun their conditioning, so Sam, Ricky, Jack, and Oliver would end their days dead tired. Ricky would occasionally come over to the PSSC headquarters and do his homework there with them. If someone started falling asleep, they would get a pillow thrown at them; that was their method of staying awake.
Everyday was fun for Sam. She would spend her breaks with Opal, laughing and talking about whatever came to mind. And even though she had Jack in most of her classes, she rarely saw him outside the classroom due to his busy schedule with the Student Council. She spent her lunch time with Oliver, Ricky and Jack (whenever he had the time). For some reason Sam never saw Opal at lunch time, so she assumed she was doing club activities.
There was something special about the time spent with Opal. Sam had forgotten what it was like to have a girl friend that she could hang out around after being surrounded by boys 24/7.
* * *
It was Wednesday of their third week at school and Sam was sitting with Opal in their second period class. Since they were on their 5 minute break, Opal pulled out a magazine and started browsing through it while Sam nibbled on a snack.
"Oh my god, this top is SO cute! I think I might order this," beamed Opal.
"Ooo show me! Show me!" said Sam.
Opal pushed the magazine towards Sam over the top of the desk and pointed at a flowy, light pink shirt.
"Oh wow! That is cute!"
Then Sam's eyes traveled to the price that read $52.00.
"WHOA. EXPENSIVE."
Opal stared at Sam with a puzzled expression.
"You had a lot of enthusiasm in that comment towards the shirt," she said with a slight chuckle.
Sam processed the events that had just happened, and realized what she had said.
"Oh! I, uh, I-I meant that it would look cute on you! Yeah! And it's kinda expensive, so I was just wondering if you would be able to afford it," stumbled Sam in an attempt to correct herself.
Opal continued to stare at Sam, blinking a few times in the process. Sam felt a cold sweat break out on her neck as she waited to see if Opal would suspect anything of her.
Opal's face softened and she said with a laugh,
"Y'know, you are so weird sometimes."
"Yeah, well, that's me!" said Sam with an uncomfortable laugh.
At that point, Sam realized that she would have to really watch herself around Opal. She couldn't help but let her "girl" side slip out when she was around her. And since Opal was fairly intuitive, she knew she would have to be extra careful.
To be continued...
Author Note: Hello precious readers! This was a very short chapter, but sometimes they will be like this! It helps me show the important events that happen at Blue Isle High. I have to say, I love Opal and Sam's relationship. At this point in the story, Sam only has one girl friend who she is close with. Opal and Sam have a really cute relationship, so keep reading to see how they progress throughout the story!
