I followed Legolas to the small harbour where we were to depart. The trees began to thin and then opened up to the waterfront, the forest surrounding it, the sun making the water glisten. The beauty at the harbour was a prominent as everywhere else in Lórien.
Galadriel and the rest of the fellowship waited for us there. We joined the rest of the group, muttering greetings and look towards the Lady of Light. Upon our arrival she gave a bright smile and faced us all. She took a beautifully crafted longbow from the arms of an elleth, who stood tall next to her. It was long and a pale cream colour with various patterns carved into it. It made my royal longbow look shabby, I was left in awe.
"My gift for you Legolas, is a bow of the Galadhrim, worthy of the skill of our woodland kin." Legolas looked stunned. He took the bow graciously and pulled the string, it was pure perfection. He looked at me with a giddy look in his eyes. Legolas radiated excitement, honour and flattery even. Galadriel smiled at his enthusiasm. She turned to Merry and Pippin next.
She held two razor sharp daggers. The hobbits' eyes widened as the saw their gifts before them. "These are the daggers of the Noldorin. They have already seen service in war. Do not fear, young Peregrin Took, you will find your courage." Pippin smiled sheepishly. Merry gazed at his dagger, looking taken aback. "And for you, Samwise Gamgee, Elven rope of the highest craft. Made of hithlain."
"Thank you, my lady," Sam said accepting the rope, red at the ears, "er...have you run out of those nice, shiny daggers?" I wacked him on shoulder.
"Rope of this caliber can be more useful than a dagger in our journey." I muttered to him as his fave erupted into embarrassed flames. Galadriel then stood in front of me. She turned around and picked up two gifts; another longbow and a silver necklace. The bow was the most beautifully crafted bow I have ever laid my eyes upon. I held in my hands and examined it with awe. The patterns carved into it were various flowers and and vines, giving it a ridged yet smooth texture. I then took the necklace. The chain was fine, yet strong, quite short only reaching about my clavicles, the charm was a little ball that radiated light. It was beautiful.
"For you Thurinel, I also give you a bow of the Galadhrim. A bow of such grace should only be given to the ones worthy of its use, and so I pass it on to you. May it serve you well." Galadriel said smiling. I pulled back the bowstring and felt my lips twitch towards a small smile. It felt so right in my hands; the wood the perfect shape, and the string at the perfect tension. "The necklace is a beacon of light made here in the trees of Lórien. Inside is part of the star Gesøphim. It is so you can return to the light if you find yourself shrouded in darkness." Any smile I had was wiped away, the fear had returned. This was my only safety net, I will guard with my entire being. Galadriel gazed at my frowning face and gave a sympathetic smile. You will overcome this curse.
She moved down the line to Gimli, who looked down at his feet shyly.
"And what gift would a Dwarf ask of the Elves?" Lady Galadriel said, her voice soft. Gimli slowly looked up at her, unsure of what to say.
"Nothing...except to look upon the Lady of Galadhrim one last time, for she is more fair than all the jewels beneath the earth." Gimli stuttered out. Galadriel laughed, a soft, sweet laugh. Was Gimli...blushing?! A surprising sight for sure. "Actually, erm, there was one thing..." Galadriel leaned down as Gimli muttered what he desired, I could not catch it despite my Elven hearing, nor did I see what she gave him. Most likely by the charm of the Lady herself. Gimli seemed very flustered afterwards.
She moved to Aragorn.
"I have nothing greater to give than the gift you already bear." She reached out and touched the Evenstar necklace around his neck. She then proceeded to talk in Elvish. "For her love, I fear the grace of Arwen Evenstar will diminish." I grimaced at the thought and Legolas also tensed up.
