I kept my eye out for Freya the whole day. Cole came up and talked to me a few times before Amara dragged him away. She was the only one who didn't have any snarky remarks. She was my favorite out of Freya's group. To me they weren't threats, but I had to be careful.
Stella and I walked into English class and took our seats. Our substitute teacher hadn't arrived just yet. Students were talking, but as soon as a man walked in, they all went quiet. I didn't recognize the man so I assumed he was another substitute teacher.
"Good afternoon, class." He said. "My name is Mr. Glaser. I will be your English teacher for the rest of the year."
The class murmured a hello. He started writing his name on the board and then started going through papers on the desk. Some of the girls in class where whispering about how attractive he was. I rolled my eyes at them and looked over at Stella who was also eyeing the teacher.
"It seems I misplaced the attendance sheet. You in the first row," He pointed to the boy closest to the door, "Please get out a sheet of paper, write your name, and pass it down the row."
Everyone wrote their names on the sheet of paper and it ended with me. I was at the back corner of the class. I stood up and walked up to his desk to hand him the sheet of paper.
"Thank you...?"
"Blaire." I said.
I was turning to leave but he stopped me. "Blaire Augustine?"
The way he said my name made me turn back around. I nodded my head and he continued to stare at me. I wondered if Freya said something to him about me. Did she even have this class? I wouldn't have put it past her to set me up in some sort of way to fail.
"Are you Alina or Elise's kid?"
"You know my mom?" I couldn't hide my surprise.
"It's Whisper Falls. I grew up with them and went to school with them in this very same high school."
"Oh." I frowned at him. "My mom is Elise."
"Huh," He continued to look at me with extreme curiosity. "What a small world."
I turned and made my way back to my seat. I didn't know what that was all about. If I asked my mom about it she would probably make up some big lie like she did all the time.
"What was that all about?" Stella asked when I took my seat.
I shrugged. "He knew my mom."
I didn't pay attention to anything Mr. Glaser said for the rest of the class. He went on and on about his plans to finish out the rest of the year. When the bell rang I quickly stood up to make a run for it. I was ready to get out of the class.
"Miss. Augustine?"
I groaned and turned around to face him. Stella gave me a look before walking out of the classroom. I stood in front of the desk waiting for Mr. Glaser to say something, but he seemed to be waiting for the class to empty out. I could see Stella waiting outside of the classroom with Kane standing next to her. He was studying Mr. Glaser.
"I'm sorry to keep you here." He started saying once the classroom was empty. "It's just that I was really good friends with your mother and her sister Alina. I'm just surprised to find out Elise had a daughter."
"Well, if it makes you feel better," I said, "it was a surprise for me to find out I had family other than my mother. Turns out my mom has a sister who has a daughter my age. So I have a cousin as well."
"Didn't you grow up here?" He looked confused.
"No. We just recently moved to Whisper Falls. My grandmother passed away."
