I met a Siren. Well at least I'd like to think I did. I was down at the beach at about...8:00 last night. It was a little bright out at the time. But there was a girl on the swing set overlooking the beach. She had long light brown hair and a rather small figure so it was hard to tell how old she was. I got the guts to go over and ask if I could swing with her...er..that sounded less sexual in my head. She happily said that she didn't mind and with a fairly nice smile. I started swinging along with her and trust me swinging in unison isn't as easy as the movies make it look. But I started the conversation off with something interesting. I didn't ask her what her name was or her age for a while. I asked her if she lived here. Maine was a popular vacation spot but people do live here. She said she's lived here her whole life and that as much as she likes to travel she doesn't leave the beach much. I told her where I was from and said it wasn't as amazing as living by the ocean. We talked about some nonsensical stuff about life until I asked her how old she was and her age. Her name is Hannah. I told her my name and I asked her if she could have the option to change her name would she. She said no and I told her my answer. At first she said she was 15 and I laughed and said I beat her by one year. I asked if she'd be watching the sunrise tomorrow morning and she said she had work. I asked what work was for her and she said an assistant for a heating and cooling company. I was confused. She said she was actually 25 and I kinda believed her and kinda was confused. I shrugged and said okay and we started thinking and talking about life and "its okay to be different" and stuff like that. I stopped swinging and looked at the rising tide. She started to slow her swing down and these words left her lips. "Would you like to walk down by the water?" Immediately my mind started racing around and wondering if we were going to kiss by the moon lit water like some movie couple goals. But I said yes a little to excitedly and she laughed and got off the swing. She took her cute girly sandals off and walked with me down to the water. She said she likes to think she owns the ocean. I had said that part of me wanted a mermaid to wash up on the shore. And part of me didn't. She said "ooh~" in a eyebrow raising kind of tone and I smiled. I explained that mermaids were kinda masochistic and loved drama filled romances or doomed relationships. She laughed and said "kinda like a Siren" and I agreed. The next few words that left her mouth is what drove me to write this. "What if I told you I was a Siren? Would you believe me?" at the time I smiled and said she was pretty enough to be one and she didn't respond to me after that. Then it was getting late but I said that I'd be okay with being late for my curfew as long as I got to spend time with her. She said she'd stay till I leave and I smiled. While walking with our feet in the water she started twirling slowly and humming. That caught me. Like a moth to a flame I was mesmerized by her. It was fairly dark now and not many people on the beach. She kept looking at my face and when she wasn't I kept looking at her hands to see if I could see a ring. As far as I could tell she didn't. We walked more and more and I started cracking jokes and such along with the subject of whatever we were talking about. She laughed a lot and told me I was really funny. I smiled and responded with "I try to be" she had asked me what my family was like but didn't talk about her family. Though I didn't ask. She said I was brave for going and talking to her. I shrugged and said "so? its just talking. Its not like I was thinking that you were gonna maul me" and she laughed. A few more rounds and I said that I should probably head home. She smiled and held her hand out. I shook her hand, which was very very soft and petite and so cute and I said that I hope our paths cross again. She smiled and said that she hoped so too. I walked back up to the sidewalk and looked back. I saw her shadowy figure still walking towards a rather rocky and dead end sort of part and looked away to brush my feet off and get the sand out of my flip flops. I looked back and it was too dark to see her. For some reason I ran back to my house feeling really energized. When I got to the path to the house I looked down then up at the moon. I was so amazed by her so I thanked the moon. Then my mind clicked one thought into my head. "Was she really a Siren?" I had kept thinking about her the whole night and fell asleep. The next morning I woke up. It was 5:00 am. I rushed and put pants on and a shirt and quietly left the house. I went back to the same beach we were at last night. Nobody there. The sun was just starting to come up. It was low tide and most of the beach was not covered by water. I started thinking about her again and the whole time I was with her. Was she really a Siren? There was a lot of weird evidence that pointed me into wanting to believe it but..also it could have just been a really amazing normal young lady. But the conversations and such kept sweeping through my mind. I believe she was a Siren and spared me because I was so different and she liked me for who I was. And that I was true and honest and she saw things that she liked. Even if she was a Siren or not..I'd still be amazed by her either way.
