I couldn’t hold back to tears any longer. Within seconds, I was bursting into tears trying to let it all out. This life was getting harder all the time, and there was only so much I could take.

            “Brigette,” he said.

Standing before me was Derek Kroto, my reason for holding on so long. Since I met him, I couldn’t help but wonder how I had survived so long without this man in my life, but I try not to question the better things in life – I’d much rather embrace them.

“Brigette, listen to me right now,” he said, as he cupped my chin with his hand. “You need to keep your head high. I promised you from the start that this never gets easy, so you can’t give up now, not yet.”

I couldn’t help but fall into his arms and bury my face into his chest, the only place I felt safe anymore in this world.

“You’re the only reason I keep going anymore,” he said softly into my ear, “You are my drive to live this life now.”

I lifted my head to look at him. I was greeted by those soft gray eyes that I had fallen in love with, who finally returned those heartfelt emotions. He raised his hand to wipe my fallen tears, and I couldn’t help but force a smile. It was difficult to ever frown when he was around.

“No matter how hard it gets, I will put my life on the line in order to save yours, because yours is more important than mine ever will be. To the world, I am just another monster destined to die, but you… you are so much more than that. Hell, I’d be lying if I said you weren’t the greatest person I had ever known.”

I didn’t have to say anything for him to know what I was thinking. The tears continued to fall, but this time they were out of happiness. This had been such a roller coaster of emotions, but it was worth it all in the end. We both smiled at each other as he kissed my forehead.

“At this point, there is nothing I wouldn’t do for you. Deep down, I knew there was something different about you since the beginning, and I can’t imagine having gone on much longer if I never took the time to figure you out. I know I’ve said it time and time again, but I’m making you this promise right now.

Until the day I die, I am going to put your life before mine and protect you with all of my strength, because you have become my reason for being… and nothing will ever change that. Not now, not ever. You’re the only thing that matters to me anymore.”

“Okay.” It was the only thing I could bring myself to say, I was so choked up in my emotions.

Derek smiled as he took me by my chin and leaned in. His lips crashed against mine, and for a few seconds, it felt as if though the world had stopped spinning. In that moment, I knew in my heart that this was where I belonged, by his side. My universe aligned whenever we were together, him being the center of it.

He pulled my waist in closer as we lost ourselves in each other. The fire inside me that had burnt out long ago was finally reignited, all thanks to his touch. Before I could get too carried away, Derek broke free from the kiss to speak.

“My promise may last until the day I die, but the passion which fuels it will carry on into my afterlife. I guess what I’m trying to say is… Brigette, I love you.”

My heart skipped a beat, finally learning how three words could mean so much. There’s no way to describe it, other than saying “You have to experience it yourself to know what I’m talking about.” It’s okay, though – the best things in life didn’t need explanation.

The tears had finally subsided as I wore the biggest smile I’ve ever smiled. I looked into those beautiful gray eyes, and nearly lost myself in them, but that was the usual case with me.

“I love you too… more than words can ever describe.”

Sometimes, the people around you will try to tell you that you’re wrong. But, if you’re anything like me, you’ll turn around, salute the middle finger and realize that if your happiness is wrong, then you’ll never want to be right.

My name is Brigette Simone, and this is my story how I fell in love with the Magic Realm’s most wanted mass murderer known as Death, or better known to me as Derek Kroto.

It’s best that you strap into your seatbelts, because this is going to be a crazy fucking ride.
