Gerry was one of my many summer crushes. I didn't need to get to know him well for him to grab my attention, unlike the others. He was also the only guy who I found attractive in nerdy glasses. Like the big ones? Yeah, he looked so adorable in them.
I met Gerry at a church youth camp. He's 3 years older than me, one of the camp's facilitators. He played the piano during praise and worship...which I found very attractive. Actually, during the first day, while we were getting ready to go to our assigned rooms, we bumped each other. I accidentally stepped on his foot...and there, we made eye contact. It was long. Yep. five to eight seconds is long, right? I couldn't keep track cause I was looking at his really pretty eyes. Anyway, we apologized simultaneously and giggled then walked away. Blushing? Yes. I was red as a tomato as what my room mate said. While walking out of the assembly hall, I heard the piano playing one of my all time favorites "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton. I looked back and saw that he was the one playing it.
During the games, I was looking for him. Sadly, we weren't in the same team. He was taking pictures. He looked so cute with his slr camera. He caught me staring at him and my eyes widened. Thank God my friend was right behind him so I randomly called out my friend's name so that it won't look like I was staring at him...even if I was. He looked so puzzled...it was cute.
At dinner, he sat at our table with his roomies. We chatted and laughed while eating our dinner. He was so much fun to talk to, and I felt like he, too, enjoyed my-- our company. We went to the assembly hall, but he sat in the other side of the room. After the service, we stayed at the assembly hall for a while, we waited for our instructor. I heard the song play again and said "Gosh, I love that song." He looked up with a smile and continued playing. I started humming. Sadly, we needed to go since it was almost lights out.
When we reached our rooms, my friends started to talk to me about him. "Omg did you see the way he looked at you?" and blah blah blah. I didn't really notice the way he looked at me until they told me, so I went all koo koo, I believed them. What was I suppose to know? I was sleepy, so I didn't get to think that through.
The next day, at breakfast I saw him talking to a really pretty girl. Jelous? Yes. I was. He greeted me when he saw me but I just looked away.
There were more camp games that time and we had so much fun. His team and our team always get paired with each other which was a little awkward for some reason what my friends told me the other day affected me. While running during one of the games, I thought "C'mon, he can't like me...he's..." and then it hit me. Of course he doesn't! The theories of my friends are so wrong. First of all, what do they know about guys? They go to an all girls school! Except for me of course. And second, I don't want to assume the way they did. So I just exhaled all the negativity in my body out and I didn't let that bother me. I mean, I am only gonna see and be with him for three days...why not make the most of them and make a really close friend?...whom I really like.
So there, after camp, we never really got to see each other. No communication whatsoever. I tried searching him on facebook and twitter, but he had none of those. I even looked him up on YouTube and Google. Yeahh...I'm such a stalker.
Everyday during that Summer, the song "A Thousand Miles" was on repeat in my iPod and it still played in my head with or without it and still visualizing him playing the piano and made eye contact with me while playing the song. Oh! And remember the part that I mentioned when I accidentally stepped on his foot? I was mesmerized by his beautiful jacket. That Summer, I hunted it down. I hunted it for five months. I got the last piece to be sold in Manila...and it's still with me up until now. Still in love with the jacket.
