KIANA

*FLASHBACK*

"What are we doing here?" I demand.

He ignores me and looks up at the sky. I look on in confusion as his eyes seem to glow a deep crimson red before they shoot beams out into the sky. I gasp as a bright flash erupts in the sky from the beams. He looks at me with a smirk before a swirling blinding light erupts behind him. It grows into a white circle before stabilizing a few inches off the ground. I stare at it. What the hell is going on here?! What the heck is that?!

"It's a portal." He speaks up, seeming to read my thoughts.

What if he is a mind reader? Just as he takes a step towards me, Flame and Snowflake appear out of nowhere.

"Step away from her, Ryder!" Flame yells.

"Now why would I want to that?" the guy who kidnapped me who I assume his name is Ryder chuckles darkly.

Uh oh. This guy is definitely bad news. I step away from him, trying to keep a distance but my feet meet the end of the building roof. Whoa! My mind screams as I almost lose my footing and fall over to my doom. I yelp when Rex appears beside me...again, out of nowhere. He gives me an amused look before walking up to Ryder.

"Ryder! What are you doing here?" he asks, seemingly angry.

"Well, the princess is in the Otherworld and so are you but I can see you've gone soft, considering you haven't brought her back yet so I'm here to show you how it's done." Ryder smirks cockily.

I snort. Flame's hair goes up in flames like it does whenever he is mad and Snowflake glares icy daggers at both of them. I'm pretty sure she could kill them both with her eyes if she wanted to.

"You brought him here, didn't you?!" Flame yells accusingly at Rex.

"No, I didn't!" he yells back, "I told you I've changed!"

"I don't believe you! Once a bad guy, always a bad guy." Snow sneers.

I didn't know what was going on but I could feel the intense tension in the air. I didn't feel it was right the way they were treating Rex. Just as I was about to say something, Ryder laughed. A loud, booming, mocking sound.

"You hear that brother!" I gasp at Ryder's words, "Once a bad guy, always a bad guy."

I don't know these people but I find it hard to think that Rex and Ryder are related in any way, let alone siblings. Rex was hot with his attractive bed hair style and his mystic caramel eyes but Ryder just struck me as one of those proud, cocky meat heads.

"Let me remind you of the good old days." Ryder makes to walk up to me.

"You will not touch her!" Rex yells.

"I swear Ryder, if you so much as lay a finger on her!" Flame yells again.

Ryder rolls his eyes and snaps his fingers. Flame and Snow disappear.

"Flame!" I scream.

Somehow I still felt safe with Rex. Ryder smirks and a small gust of wind pushes me over the edge. I scream as the wind rushing past fills my ears, competing with the sound of my blood pumping through my veins. I could hear Rex yelling my name as I fell. I closed my eyes, preparing for the impact but it didn't come. Instead I fell into a pair of strong sturdy arms. At first I thought it was Ryder and I was ready to thrash but the owner of the arms gave me a sense of safety and warmth. I look up and meet Rex's caramel eyes that seemed to twinkle in the night. I let out a breath of relief and he lets me down.

"Are you okay?" he asks, his eyes full of concern.

My heart swells. For the first time since all this crazy stuff started happening, Rex has been the only one who has shown any care for me.

"Yeah, I'm okay." I nod.

"Good." He lets out a breath of relief.

"Why are you helping me, why do you care?" I ask.

"Because I've changed, Kiana. You may not know it but I was ruthless before. But, I want to be good. I just wish Flame and Snow could see that." He looks down in sadness.

My chest clenches and my heart flutters at his confession.

"Everyone deserves a chance...even bad guys." I look at him and smile.

"Thanks Kiana." He smiles back.

A red beam hits Rex's arm from the roof. I yelp and look up. Ryder stands there with an evil smirk that sends chills through my bones. I felt a surge of emotion wash through me for Rex as he bends in pain. I have never cared for someone so much before. Only Conner. My heart squeezes at the thought of him.

"Rex! Are you okay?" I squat to his level.

He gives a struggled nod. I get up in anger. I stare at Ryder as he gets ready to shoot another beam and this time, at me. I don't know what possessed me to but I just stood there and concentrated on his eyes. My eyes burned and a pair of golden yellow beams shot out directly into Ryder's, probably blinding him temporarily. He growls in pain and steps back out of view. I turn to Rex.

"Are you okay?"

"You already asked that." He strains.

I give a nervous laugh, "Right."

I stretch out my hand for him to help himself up. He uses his uninjured arm to grab it and pulled himself up. Just then Flame appeared. I gasped in surprise.

"Come with me!" he yells at me.

"Where to?" I ask.

"We don't have time for-"he starts.

My patience was wearing thin and my irritation was growing. Did he really want to test my anger now?

"I asked a question Flame!" I growled.

He seems to contemplate whether to give in or not before he speaks.

"To The Barrier." He sighs.

"You can't take her there!" Rex exclaims.

I look at them as they bicker and I grow frustrated. Ryder jumps down silently and sags me. I scream and the two boys look up in shock as Ryder seems to fly back to the roof and towards the glowing circle.

"It's the only way, Rex." I hear Flame say.

I could just picture Rex nodding reluctantly.
