Christopher Heartfield ran through the empty corridors of his office floor. His heart was hammering against his chest, his shoes clattered against the tiled floors creating an unusual beat of doom. He placed his hand on the scanner and the door to his office quickly opened. Once in he pressed the lockdown code frantically with his sweaty hands eager to close the door as if his life depended on it.
His life DID depended on it
“Going somewhere Christopher?” Christopher froze instantly as he heard the icy cold voice within the vicinity of the room. He frantically darted his gaze in the shadows, trying to look for its source, but whomever it was blended well with the shadows.
“Who are you? What do you want from me?” Christopher said trying to sound brave, yet failing. The stranger in the shadows let out a chuckle of malicious intent.
“Christopher, Christopher, Christopher, don’t try to put up an act here, acting really doesn’t suit you.” The stranger said moving from one spot to another, toying with Christopher.
“You know what your little stunt of heroism cost us?” the voice said, but this time it came out in a hiss.
“Please, I’ll do whatever you want” Christopher started to plead knowing the consequences of his deed.
“Too late” the voice said and a shadow whizzed towards Christopher. His assailant brought his blade towards his neck and with one swift motion; Christopher’s head parted from his body.
I groaned as my alarm went off waking me with its annoying sound. My name is Bridgette Stones, your part time normal school girl of this generation. I work as an agent called ‘Assault’ in a secret organization called ‘Emporium’. You see when the World War II ended, it never really ceased. The battle continued in a smaller but much more deadly range that just transpires under civilians’ noses. Emporium was once known as the Allies, and the once Axis now hid behind the name of the ‘Inferno’.
After showering and preparing for school, I walked out of my room clad in white tank top, purple cardigan, denim jean shorts, and white pumps. My older sister, Stephanie who just got out of the room down the hall was dressed as if she was going to sell her soul to the devil, in style. No pun intended.
“Good morning sister” she waved at me as she approached. I gave her a look of disbelief and walked towards the stairs leading to the kitchen. Yes, my mother owns a huge house, it’s practically a mansion. Stephanie is also a secret agent; her code name is ‘Distract’. You see in Emporium they provide you your code name depending of what you excel in. I was given the name assault because of my capability in killing people; how Stephanie got hers, do not ask.
When I reached the kitchen, my mom was cooking breakfast, consist of bacon, cheese omelet a slice of baguette and a large juice of natural mango juice.
“Hey mom” I said kissing her cheeks as I sat down to eat my breakfast, and no she does not know about my secret life. Whenever Stephanie or I am on a mission, we would simply say we are hanging out with dad, which is partially true because dad is the head of the agency. They filed a divorce eight years ago when dad accepted the title of the chief. My dad did it to keep mom away from harm, especially Inferno inflicted harm.
