A/n: I'm really sorry that my second chapter of "A New Start" isn't up yet but I need to add a few more things and I just got home from camping and I'm exhausted. I promise it will be up tomorrow tho

*dating*

They were on the hunt. Intelligence had caught a case with a missing eight year old boy named Tommy, which turned out to be a kidnapping by the nanny.

Time was running out and the boy had been missing for over sixteen hours already, and if they didn't find him soon things wouldn't end up well.

Tensions were high as everyone was researching possible addresses for family of the nanny, background checks, possible help from CI's.

"I got something!" Mouse exclaimed as he jumped up. "The nanny has an old storage unit at 4072 North Broadway. Unit 255."

"Everyone suit up, we leave in five," Hank yells as he makes his way downstairs.

The rest of the team jumps up and follows as Jay pats Mouse on the shoulder as a thank you.

This doesn't go unnoticed by Erin. She's been keeping an extra close eye on him ever since she saw him wincing at the details of the kidnapping.

She knew this one was hitting close to home but she wasn't sure why. She's never seen anyone more focused but more completely all over the place at the same time. She could tell this was eating him up inside.

Everyone got there vests on and headed to their cars to get to the location.

••••••••

Everyone was out of their cars and on their way to the storage unit. Once they made it and made sure everything was clear, Kevin clipped the lock and pulled it open.

Laying there was Tommy Swanson.

Jay was down on his knees giving chest compressions in no time. Adam following suit to check the pulse in his neck.

Jay was blowing breaths into the little boys mouth as Adam looked up and slowly shook his head.

Tommy was dead.

They were too late.

"Jay, he's gone man. Come on," said Adam as he stood up.

Jay didn't stop the compressions.

"Jay?" Adam repeated.

Everyone looked at each other, their faces full of worry.

"Halstead, Tommy's gone," said Voight.

Two more rescue breaths.

"Halstead, it's over," added Voight.

"Come on Ben. Come on wake up. Ben, come on buddy," Jay muttered as he continued compressions.

Now everyone was beyond worried, they all slowly looked at Erin with concerned faces.

She slowly nodded and holstered her gun. She bent down on the opposite side of Jay.

"Jay?" She said in a weak voice.

She was scared, what had him acting like this must've been terrible. He was completely out of it and was calling him Ben.

Two more rescue breaths. More compressions.

"Jay," she said as she put a hand on his shoulder.

That's when he finally looked up. She saw a haze in his eyes and tears in the corner of them. He slowly blinked and looked around. The haze went away and he locked eyes with her.

"Come on, let's go home alright?"

He looked back down at Tommy's lifeless body for a moment. Then he looked up and nodded at her.

"Okay, come on."

They stood up and she rubbed her hand on his back to comfort him a little.

She looked to Hank to ask him if she could just bring him home and he nodded, followed by a "take a few days."

She nodded in thanks and then guided Jay to the car.

••••••••

The whole ride was silent.

So silent that you could hear a pin drop.

She was worried about him. He had been sitting completely still and staring straight ahead the whole ride. He hadn't said anything since calling out for a 'Ben'.

After she parked her car in its usual place she looked over at him. His face was expressionless. She reached over and held the side of his face, and he flinched slightly at her touch but he looked over.

"Are you okay?" She asked as she stroked her thumb back and fourth on his cheek.

He shook his head.

She dropped her hand and got out of the car as he did too. They walked up to the apartment together, Erin's arm wrapped around his back.

Once they got inside he sat on the couch and she got him some water. When she sat back on the couch he reached for her and laid her head in his lap and stroked her hair.

But he was still staring straight ahead.

She was terrified of what could possibly be causing this. She's never seen him like this.

"Ben Corson," he said out of no where.

"Ben was the little brother of a girl I dated for two years but we were really close before that. I knew Ben since he was about three. He was like a little brother."

He took a deep breath and she reached to put a hand on the arm that wasn't playing with her hair.

"One day he was playing in the yard and when Mrs. Corson went out to check on him, he was gone. They called the police and the hunt went on for two weeks until they found him dead."

That's when she sat up and faced him, a concerned look painted on her face. She saw a few tears going down his cheeks.

"Apparently the neighbor had kidnapped him, raped him, strangled him, and then dumped him in the woods of a park two miles away."

She reached for his hands ready to console him but he kept going.

"This case reminded me of him and I haven't been able to get his face out of my head. I guess when we found him I somehow thought it was Ben. I didn't want him to die, I tried to save him."

That's when his voice broke. Tears started pouring down his face. She quickly moved to his lap and wrapped her arms around him, bringing him as close as possible to her.

She slightly rocked him back and forth as he let it all out. All the pent up emotion he's had since Ben's death.

She heard him sniffle before he said, "He was only eight years old. He was like my little brother Er."

She held him tighter and rubbed soothing circles on his back. She ran a hand through his hair trying to comfort him in anyway possible.

After a few minutes he pulled away and she rested her hand on the side of his face as he looked her straight in the eyes.

"Thank you Er, thanks for being here," he said before pulling her into a tight hug.

"Of course, in always going to be here Jay. Always."
