"Sharon,it's okay... I'm fine."
Normally when I say that she would hug me till I begged her to stop but the person didn't move.
"Mum?"
I turned to look, it was him.
Robert.
"Get out." I said without venom. I sat up and hugged my pillow.
"I don't like you much" I sniffed. I'm sure I looked like a mess but I didn't care.
"I haven't given you much reason to like me huh?" He said with a half smile. I ignored the warmth that smile gave me.
He looked everywhere in the room except at me.
"Nice room", he commented, smirking at the flowery wallpaper all around.
" Cut the chase, what do you want?" I rolled my eyes. I wanted to smack his smirk off his face.
He stared at me with an intensity that had me nearly gasping.
"I came to apologise"he paused and took a deep breath.
" For what?" I forced out through my suddenly very dry mouth.
He stood up and paced around. He was making me a little nervous. His large frame made my room look smaller than it actually was.
He stopped suddenly, sat down and gripped my chin gently.
I was mesmerized by the desire and frustration in his eyes.
"Look, you're no longer a kid. I'm a senior and you're a freshman. There's nothing wrong with that" he whispered. He sounded like he was trying to convince himself.
I blinked and he let go like my skin burnt him.
"That's not an apology" I told him. I was confused and frustrated. What did he mean by all this?
"What's going on?" I asked in concern. I've never seen Robert like this. He seemed to be struggling with something that had to so with me.
"Never mind 'cause nothing is ever going to happen between us" he answered in a clipped tone.
That stung, really stung. Tears pooled in my eyes and fell free.
I buried my face in my pillow to hide my tears. I didn't want him to know his words got to me.He might have seen me because he scooped me into his arns and sat down. I held on and cried harder.
Today was a crappy day for me.
He smoothened my hair and murmured an apology.
"I'm sorry, love. I'm a jerk. I'm sorry", he said with a weary smile. The endearment washed over me like the warmth that drinking hot cocoa drink can give during a cold night.
He smelled good...edible even. I wanted to stay like this forever.
" You called me love" I mumbled, trying to get closer to the warmth he oozed.
"I did?" He asked with a slight frown.
Without much thought I touched the frown between his brow. It disappeared as soon as I made contact with his skin.
His brown eyes burned with fire that made my heart dance around. Suddenly were so close our breaths mingled...his lips nearly descended on mine when we heard mum called out for me from downstairs.
I sprang away from him in alarm. He stood up and put his hands in his pant's pocket. While my heart was in a frenzy he just stood there calmly.
I wanted to smack his head upside down but that would be childish so I composed myself as best as I could and went downstairs before mum came upstairs.
