This book, written by the critically acclaimed author Richard Laymon, took me on a great journey as a reader! The beginning of this book was both detailed and mysterious; the book is written in a 3rd person narrative (as to not give away clues of death and such by a sudden change in narrative) and is focussing on many perspectives, this begs the question of “What connects them?”
Mystery is what initially kept me reading, after that the plot had me completely enticed; some people may claim the book to have been slow going to start off with, I, however, believe that the pace matched the character and plot development which aided my understanding of the text. Reading this text was like climbing a ladder, you get higher and higher and the more you climb the more dedicated you become to climbing it; instead of reaching a destination, you reach closure in how the whole thing is tied together.
Horror is this book’s genre; however, for those who are just testing out this particular genre, this book eases you into it and is perfect for those who are eclectic in their taste!
With all books comes at least a singular fault, this one has a few; this book over uses the word “rump” and slightly over sexualises characters (also, I think the writer has a thing for blonds). Other than these few flaws, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone looking for a good read!
Ps- Richard should be given extra credit for having an actually blurb! (Many books seem to be lacking this very helpful quality and find it funny to replace blurbs with heaps of reviews). For those of you who pick it up for a read, enjoy!
