Biting my finger nails as my mothers car pulled into the parking lot as I sat in the passenger seat. I couldn't have been more nervous. Kindergarten until six grade at my old school with everyone I know and now moving to a new school in the middle of the school year and having to meet new people. My mother dropped me off and I walked into the school my hand print left on the glass door behind me. I walked into that principal office my legs trembling.
"Hello, you must be the new girl I was told about. What'd your last name again?" The lady with a pinched nose behind the desk asked me.
"Dot."
"Ahhh Victoria Dot, beautiful name." She smiled at me "I'll be right back with some paperwork and your class schedule"
I took in this little office and watched a few kids walk down the hall late to their first classes. There was a small wooden desk at which the lady sat who's name I discovered by the gold plaque on her desk was Ms.Brown the most original last name in the book. Her desk scattered with pictures of her family.
"Alright, here we are Ms.Dot your first class is going to be Ms. Olsens. I'll have a student come down here and show you around today." She picked up the phone.
Oh great, one of those schools who wants you to be buddy buddy with everyone and have people escort you places when you're new.
"Hi, my names Katie!" This bubbly over tan girl popped into the office space.
"Victoria." I jammed my hands into my sweatshirt pocket and followed her out of the office where she took me to meet my science teacher who looks like she bleached her hair too much, then to the math teacher who was also a basketball coach so he doesn't need no explanation and my language arts teacher, she was cool I liked her which is even better because writing and reading is my strong suit.
Sitting in the row I got weird glances from everyone. Judging me with every sharp glare and wondering stare. I just wanted out, I don't like being the center of attention. Suffering from bipolar depression and some very stressful anxiety does that to you.
Soon but not soon enough the bell rang and we were dismissed to computers where Katie ditched me and I found my own way, sitting where nobody was but not to my avail someone sat next to me just as bubbly as Katie. The teacher walked in and clapped her hands, her face big, but her nose taking up most of it. The rest of the day went by pretty fast but the glances and glares didn't stop.
Riding the bus home on the first day wasn't my choice but it was my only option. Sitting by myself halfway back my hood up hoping nobody would sit with me but this one girl did, I recognized her from a few of my class. An hour later it's my stop and I connected really good with that girl from my class. Hanna her name was.
Walking into the front door I greeted my grandma and my parents before going to the basement where my sister and I share a room.
"How was your first day of seventh grade at a new school." My big sister sat on her bed directly across the room from mine.
Shrugging off her question "when do you start?"
"I think they got my paper work in today so hopefully tomorrow. How's the bus ride?"
"Too long." I huffed as I slammed down on my bed and opened up my backpack getting a start on my homework.
Two hours later I close my textbook and go upstairs for diner. We're current living with our grandparents nearly six hours away from where we used to live because we couldn't afford rent anymore. Six people, one bathroom. It definitely isn't living the dream.
