Tobias
Chapter 17
Tris's scream made my eyes flash open. Oh-no it's Edward... I though to myself. I run over to the light switch, turning it on, and the room floods with light. She's still lying in bed, and there's a puddle underneath her. Tris's water broke.
I run over to Tris, and grab her hand. She's breathing too fast, and I feel her heart racing. "I'm going to get you to the hospital, Tris. Just try to breathe." Her face winces, eyes watering, and her scream is so loud it's electric.
In-between screams, Tris says,"No...Tobias, they're coming, now."
I try to stay calm, and lie Tris on the floor, under the softest blanket I could find near me. "Tobias, I-I-I can't breathe." I put my arms on her shoulders. "Tris, take deep breaths. In...Out...In...Out." I repeat this until her breathing is stable.
"Tris, you're going to have to push." I'm frantic, but I need to stay calm, to help Tris through this. "Tobias, I can't." But I know she can, she's the strongest women I've ever met.
"Tris, I love you, and I know you're strong enough to do this." She pushes, and our first baby, Alex, comes out. I dry him with a random blanket I found on the floor, and he starts to cry. Good, I think to myself. I hand him to Tris, and she starts crying, and mumbles to Alex,"I love you, I love you, I love you..."
After a few minutes, Tris starts screaming again. I lightly lay my hand on her heart, as if saying 'stay calm'. She gets the message, and her breathing slows. Since Tris and I have been together for awhile, we can talk to each other by touching each other or gestures.
Liv comes out, and I feel a rush of relief race through my body. Everyone's all right, our family will be okay.
I get up, and see Tris panting, but once I show her Liv, her eyes dance with joy, sending a spark of happiness through me. "Tris, are you okay?" She nods. "You were brave, Tris. I'm proud of you." My voice cracks, and tears fill my eyes. I am a father, and I will not be like Marcus. Never.
"Tobias, I couldn't of done this without you. You helped me get through this, and I love you." We kiss, and I feel Tris shaking, trying to keep her tears inside. "Tris, it's okay, you can cry." Tears flow down her face like a waterfall, and she lies her head onto my chest. "Tobias, I-I'm sc-sc-sc-scared." She's still holding Alex, and my arms are wrapped around Liv. "I'm scared too, Tris. But I know these kids will love us." She mumbles something into my chest, but it's muffled by my shirt.
"Are you tired?" I ask. She nods, and I help her onto her feet. I remember the first time I ever saw her, when she was the first jumper. When I pulled her out of the net, when my hands held hers, when my eyes met hers, I knew that she would change my life. And she did.
I help her get into her pjs, and I carry her to bed. The second she touches the bed, she's out like a light. I laugh, and hold Alex and Liv in my arms. "I won't let anything happen to you, okay?" They both fall asleep, in my arms, so I take that as a yes. I snicker. "You guys are just like you mom." I hold them to my chest. their my family now, and I have to protect them. It's my duty as father. I fall asleep, holding them to me, protecting them from the outside world.
