I slowly stopped crying and stood up. Jack had already hung up and my phone was turned off. I was confused by what he meant but I packed some stuff in a small bag and waited for Jack.
Joe seemed to have left and my heart sunk just by the thought that he had given up. I guess it is my own fault too. I should've just talked to him but Britt was there and I hated it. I hated it a lot.
Three quick knocks sounded on the door and I hastily got up to open the door. I looked through the peephole and saw Jack looking quite desperate. I opened the door and Jack immediately hugged me.
"Vanessa, your eyes are swollen and red. I'm so sorry." He was speaking in a hushed voice, making sure Joe didn't hear us.
I grabbed my bag and Jack quickly took it from my hands. "I'm ready. Let's just go." I frowned and shut my door quite loudly actually. I winced and glanced at Joe's door but nothing happened. Shaking my head, I followed behind Jack.
He opened the car door for me and gave me a worried glance. I smiled at him but I could tell he knew it was fake. He put my bag in the back and got in the car. I looked back at the apartment building as Jack drove away.
"Are you sure you're okay? You were crying for a long time, I wish I was there sooner." Jack glanced at me sadly and bit his lip.
"Yeah I'm fine. It was just something i didn't want to see but I don't want to talk about it." I leaned back and looked out the window, turning away from Jack.
"It's about Joe, isn't it?" He gritted his teeth and gripped on the steering wheel. His knuckles were white and his jaw was clenched.
"It was but please don't tell anyone. I don't want anyone thinking wrongly of him." I sighed and closed my eyes but all I could see was that image of Joe and Britt. I opened my eyes quickly and focused on the road.
Jack scoffed and looked at me angrily. "You don't want anyone thinking wrongly of him? Are you kidding me!? He fucking made you cry and get hurt and that doesn't matter to you?"
"Yes he hurt me but I still love him. What can I do?" I huffed and glanced at a couple walking down the street holding hands.
"Forget about him." Jack said in a serious tone. I looked at him confusedly and shook my head.
"I don't think I can do that. I love him, Jack." I looked outside the window as we pulled up into Jack's place.
He got out and opened the door for me and got out my bag. We walked inside to his apartment. His footsteps were heavy and he looked annoyed. I, on the other hand, must've looked small and weak.
Conor was sitting on the couch with a bag of chips next to him. He turned towards us and immediately walked over to me when he saw me. "Vanessa, what happened? Jack just ran out the door and said he needed to see you. I was so worried!" Conor held my hands tightly as I smiled weakly at him.
"She doesn't want to say what happened. Something about Joe." Jack sat on the couch with his hands in his hair.
Conor rolled his eyes at Jack and led me to the couch. "You don't have to say anything, I'll order some pizza and we'll forget about what happened, okay?"
"Thanks Conor, that sounds amazing." I smiled at him and he patted my head as he left to order the pizza.
Jack removed his hands from his hair slowly and groaned. "You should just tell us what happened so we can help you." He said, turning to me with a frown on his face.
"I'm sorry Jack, I just don't want to talk about it." I rubbed my arm as Jack slumped into the couch.
He nodded his head and sighed. I felt bad but every time I think about it, I feel like crying. I haven't dated anyone in a while and finally when I thought everything was going fine, I get stabbed in the heart. Of course Jack was worried and he wanted me to tell him but I just couldn't.
Finally Conor came back and said the pizza would be here in fifteen minutes. He sat next to me and pulled me in for a hug. "I don't know what happened but I'm sure Joe didn't mean it."
"Oh please, we both know Joe can't stick with one girl! When was the last time he had a long relationship? He could care less about being tied down to one person." Jack sounded annoyed as he crossed his arms and turned away from Conor and I.
"Jack stop being so rude, you're hurting Vanessa. Isn't that something you don't want to do?" Conor hugged me tighter as I let out a small whimper. I felt like crying again just from hearing Jack say all those words.
Jack sighed and looked at me worriedly. "You're right, I don't want to hurt you Vanessa. I'm sorry, it just annoys me that Joe wouldn't care about your feelings."
I nodded my head slowly and pulled away from Conor. "I'm sorry I don't want to say anything but I just feel like crying every time I think about it." I breathed in deeply and moved my hair away from my face.
"It's okay, take your time. Let's just focus on other things." The doorbell rung and Conor stood up. "Like the delicious pizza that just arrived!"
Jack and I laughed as Conor placed the pizza on the table and we all dug in to eat. I smiled happily as they both tried to cheer me up.
