Lexi, the luckiest girl.
"I am so sorry, Lexi! I really wanted YOU to be my maid of honour but I had no choice. I had to make my stupid cousin, Evie, the maid of honour.... She's bitchy, psychotic, manipulative..." And the string of profanities continued. I rolled my eyes at Daph. Vanessa nudged me with her elbow and giggled.
No. Don't laugh, Lexi. We talked about this, right? You are NOT supposed to laugh because even though it is sliiiiiiiightly impossible but Daphne is a girl too. She is allowed to have pre-wedding jitters right? So don't laugh, Lexi, and be a supportive friend.
After getting over with my self prep talk, I turned to Daph who was still rambling about how she didn't want to carry peonies and how it would be cool to have her wedding at the amusement park with a "beachwear" theme. And her explanation? So that it would be easy to shag Josh after getting over with the stupid wedding.
Her words, by the way. Not mine. I cringed at the mental image of that. After all these years, it seemed like I was still a tenured professor in the department of Highly Disturbing Mental Images. Catching Vanessa and Tyler in the act was the highest salary I've ever got in this department. Number two was seeing good old Mrs. Pumpernickel flirting with my dad. I didn't know which was worse- her pouting or my dad blushing. I squirmed even more.
"LEXI SNAP OUT OF IT!" Daphne yelled. She threw a pillow at me. Pow.
I rubbed my bruised head. "What?"
"Don't you have those two little pointy things we all have on the either side of her heads? EARS! So that you can listen to when people talk to you! Atleast Vanessa's PRETENDING to listen! You're not even doing that!" She ranted. I looked at Vanessa who was snuggled on the couch with her phone, wearing a creepy smile.
"Hey! I'm listening okay?" Van said hiding her phone under the blanket.
"Please. I know you're sexting with Lexi's little brother." She said, deadpan. I shuddered. Yuck.
"Lexi Grayson, you give me that pillow RIGHT NOW!" Vanessa said to me while glaring at Daphne.
I wouldn't, COULDN'T, argue with that tone. I threw the pillow at her and watched the two of them scramble at each other with an amused smile on my face.
"STOP PULLING MY HAIR IT IS MY WEDDING TOMORROW YOU BITCH!" Daphne shouted.
And just then someone entered the room, "Did someone just say bitch? Oh man, I don't have any spots available now!"
I buried my face in my hands. This situation was just getting hilarious by the second. And I didn't want to get my hair pulled out so I resisted the urge to give in to laughter.
"Alex! What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at Josh's bachelor party?" I asked him. Alex's name caught Daphne's and Vanessa's attention. They stopped fighting and stared at Alex for an explanation. They were all eager to hear about their men. Who were, by the way, at JOSH TORRES' bachelor party. So I really couldn't blame them. I was eager to know about it too but Blake had promised me that there would be no strippers so I wasn't that worried. But with Josh and Blake, you never know.
Alex looked nervous. He scratched the back of his neck and stuttered, "Yeah well.. Stuff happened. So we came back..." He trailed looking everywhere but at us. Oh no, why is he sounding so guilty?
"But it's only," I paused to check my watch, "One AM. Why are you back so early? Are the rest of them back too?" Alex looked at me guiltily.
