The elevator opened its old, rusted doors to the greyed out hallway of the hidden entrance to new home. He had barely walked 4 feet from the elevator before his already shaking legs betrayed him, buckling and sending him crumpling to the ground. Holding himself up by his arms, watching the dirt below him gradually be splattered darker by water.

It was in that moment that he realised he was crying, shaking in fact, violently at that. He shook himself off, slowly, his shaking calming down as he stood up, leaning heavily against a nearby wall, trying to calm his breathing. He had expected it to be hard, but that sent him over the edge.

"C'mon Sans, get it together..." He muttered to himself, his wings unconsciously straining against their restraints as they tried to wrap around his still slightly shaking frame.

He closed his eyes, letting his head fall against the wall as well, taking a few deep breaths, his shaking finally calming down enough that he could trust himself to walk...

But where? Where could he go? He was so... Different now. He had wings, he was taller, heck he even spoke differently. Where could he go that people wouldn't recognise him? And well he could go to New Home, he needed to be somewhere close to... them... so he could make sure they wouldn't... kill anyone...

But he couldn't even go near Snowdin. He... He wasn't ready to tell anyone anything. He couldn't... So where could he go that nobody would recognise he was different... where...

A fleeting thought crossed through his mind, causing him to smile slightly as a memory was brought to the forefront of his mind. The sweet tinkling laugh lifting his spirits in his darkest hour, a small wooden panel separating them...

His smile grew into his signature grin, though it was genuine this time. He decided that it was time to visit the lady of the ruins...

His grin evident on his face now, his harrowing experience in the lab almost completely fleeing from the forefront of his mind, he flicked on his hood to not only cover his face but the cracks on the side of his skull as well, which had fallen off when he was in the elevator. He took the hallway to the next corridor, hopping into the elevator to the core, letting his thoughts wander slightly as the elevator started its descent.

He wondered how Papyrus was doing... If he was worried, or if he had even arrived home yet. His sense of time had grown null and void over the years and years of resets so he really didn't know how long it had been since he had left. It could have been hours... Heck even days for all he could tell, though he severely doubted that.

He should check on him when he got to Snowdin, from afar of course. He wasn't... ready... to explain any of it. It was... Complicated. He loved his brother but...
The elevator let off a ding signaling that he had arrived at his location, halting his train of thought. Sighing, he stepped out, making his way across the catwalks.

Snow crunched beneath his shoes as he walked down the familiar path in the forest, a heavy weight settling on top of his heart. He had went to check on Papyrus, and his brother had been running around looking for him and he felt terrible. But he couldn't... Papyrus would immediately know something was different about him.

That would involve explaining... And pain... More pain... He....
He sighed, shaking his head slightly to clear his thoughts. Not now... Not again... No panic attacks. Not now...

After a few minutes of walking through the snow covered forest, he came to a large wall in the cave, a small purple door separating the sides. He smiled slightly, going up to the door and sitting down in front of it, his head falling against the hard familiar surface. He sat like that for a few moments before he took a breath, letting his fist rap against the door.

"Knock knock..." He said slowly.
"...Who is there?" Someone responded after a moment, though there was something off...

"Dishes."

"Dishes who?"

"Dishes a very bad joke."

"Ha....ha.." The voice sounded more monotone.

"Are you alright?" Sans asked, slightly worried about her.

"...Yes my friend I am alright. Earlier a monster payed me a...visit and I thought they were someone else. I realised later that that was a silly thought, though it still... Dredged up memories." Toriel explained after a moment, her voice wavering uneasily.

"Oh... Uhm..." He muttered, not exactly sure about how to respond to that... He was about to say something when Toriel interrupted him.

"What about you friend, you sound different than usual." She said quickly in a blatant attempt at changing the subject. He decided to not point it out.

"Uhhmm, I guess I decided to step up my game, for the ladies~" He said sarcastically, earning a laugh from Toriel.

"You've goat to be kid-ing me Sans, we both know that's not true." She responded, giggling softly.

"You wound me." He stated, smiling slightly. He was happy that he was able to make her feel at least a bit better.

"But It'll heal, I'm only skin and bones after all." He continued, smirking. "Humerus right?"

She laughed from the other side of the door, though it tapered out after a moment and a slight shuffling could be heard from the other side of the door.

What...

"Sans have... Have you seen a human lately?" She asked him suddenly.

Ah, so that's why she was so resigned, on top of the earlier run-in with that monster she had talked about. Though he didn't feel like talking about... them at all right now, he would do it for Toriel.

"Uhh, yes they seemed alright if that's what you are wondering." He said slowly.

"They are at the edge of Snowdin." He added quickly, suddenly remembering his promise to Toriel about... Protecting her...

He now deeply regretted that promise.

"Good good, I was... worried but..." Toriel said quietly, a clicking noise coming from the other side of the door.

"But I believe..." She started, the door to the ruins cracking open slightly.

"I have been lax in my duties as a mother so far..."
