You are sitting staring blankly at your computer screen. In front of you is a whole list of messages from different people wishing you happy birthday on Twitter. You sit back in your chair and roll your eyes.
Your friends told you that they were going to spend the week spamming Harry Styles and trying to get him to message you. Obviously that didn’t work! You scroll down a little further in your messages, and notice one that says “From Liam Payne.” You think it is probably just a fake account, but you open it out of curiosity anyway. You see the sender’s profile, and the verified tick next to his name. At that moment everything sinks in – THE REAL LIAM PAYNE HAS JUST SENT YOU A MESSAGE.
Rather than jumping up and down screaming, which is exactly what you feel like doing, you sit down, close your eyes, and breathe deeply through your nose. You can feel the clear air circulating through your lungs. You open your eyes to see Liam’s beautiful photo staring you in the face.
You click onto the message and hold your breath. Part of you still believes that it is from a fake Liam Payne, but every part of you is wishing for it to be real. In front of you is a short message that says: ‘Happy Birthday. Call me.’ After that Liam has written his mobile number. Those four words and a bunch of numbers have left your heart racing and your palms sweating.
You grab your phone from your pocket and turn it over in your hands wondering whether you should call Liam or not. You decide that you will wait a couple of hours, not wanting to seem too desperate. The time goes too slowly, but you busy yourself with homework and aimless pacing around the house.
Eventually you decide it has been long enough for you not to seem desperate. You pull out your crappy mobile phone and enter Liam’s number. You had it memorised, but now the time has come to actually type it into your phone, your fingers tremble, and you make many mistakes. Finally you enter the number correctly, and you press the dial button.
