Chapter 13: Returned Possession. . .
I’ve only got two days left in the hospital wing and I haven’t seen Draco since the day I followed him outside.
I’m reading a book called Hogwarts: A History at the moment. My father suggested I read it. It’s a very good book.
I hear a knock at the door and lift my head, longing to see one person in particular.
And sure enough, there he is.
“Hey.” He says.
“Hi.” I reply.
“Listen about the other day. . .” He starts.
“No. I don’t want to hear it.” I tell him.
“But Nicole I. . .”
I hold up a hand to stop him. “I’m not saying it was wrong I’m just saying that I get it now. And I think that I lo. . .” I start but I’m interrupted when Harry enters.
“Way to ruin a moment.” I mutter.
“Hey Nic.” Harry acknowledges, completely ignoring Draco.
“Hey Harry. Draco you know Harry right.” I say, shooting Harry a serious glance.
“Ok. I can see you’re busy here. I’ll come back later.” Harry says.
I nod and he leaves, muttering to himself.
“Listen, about him, I’m sorry. He’ll take some time.” I explain to Draco.
Draco smiles and sits beside my bed.
“That’s ok. I’m used to it.” Draco explains.
“I’m glad you came. I thought you were avoiding me or something.” I say.
Draco shakes his head. “I’ve just had a lot going on.”
I smile and we lapse into silence. But it’s not awkward like the first time he came to visit me.
“I brought something for you.” Draco says.
“No more gifts! You’ve given me far too much already!” I tell him.
“Don’t worry. This belongs to you already.” He says smiling.
He pulls my wand out of his pocket and hands it to me.
“Thanks. I thought it was gone for sure after it fell into the lake.” I tell him.
Draco shakes his head. “It should be fine.”
I nod and smile.
“Well I’d better be going now.” He says standing up.
“Draco wait! I have to tell you something!” I say urgently.
“You can tell me later. I really have to go. Otherwise I’ll be late for potions and I’d rather not suffer the wrath of Snape.” Draco says, chuckling.
I nod, my face falling.
He cups my face in his hand, causing me to look at him.
“I’ll be back later. I promise.” He says.
I nod. “Ok.”
He smiles and leaves.
“Bye.”
“Bye Draco.”
Harry comes in afterwards, still muttering to himself.
“What’s going on between you and Malfoy?” Harry asks me.
“Nothing!” I protest, blushing furiously.
“Good. If you went out with him, my father would kill you.” Harry says seriously.
“No he wouldn’t. He loves me too much.” I say, smiling angelically.
“I’m not even sure that would be enough if you started going out with one of Snape’s precious Slytherins.” He tells me.
I laugh and he sits down beside my bed.
I move over, making room for him to sit beside me and I tap the empty space on the bed beside me.
He kicks of his shoes and sits beside me.
“Are you worried that if I start going out with Draco, I won’t have enough time for you?” I tease.
He shakes his head, flicking my hair to annoy me.
“Stop it!” I growl and he tickles me making me laugh.
He stops tickling me as I’m now gasping for breath.
“You’re so easy to annoy.” He says laughing.
“You’ll regret saying that Potter.” I say, smiling evilly.
“Why would that be Lupin?” Harry asks.
“Because. . .oh you just will!” I protest.
He nods and jumps up.
“I’d better be off now. I don’t want to be late for Divination.” Harry says.
I nod.
“See you later.” He says, hugging me.
I smile and nod and he leaves.
And I’m left alone.
