1) It’s never hard to find her classroom when you need to…because it’s most probably the one that’s making all that noise. You know…the one you could hear from the 1st floor when it’s in the 4th floor?
Conner could still remember how awkward, stupid and out of place he felt as he treaded cautiously towards the room at the end of the fourth floor hall. He could hear various types of chatter echoing from the room. It was easy to identify her classroom even if her friends didn’t exactly remember to tex him where they were spending their 12:30 class. He only had about 30 minutes of free time left to study for that test he feels his professor would be giving them. He spent all morning waiting outside the cramped flower store for a decent bouquet that wouldn’t dare go pass 500 pesos. Thankfully he still had change to buy chocolates at 7/11. It was borderlining cliché and a little die hard on the romantic side, but the girl loves chocolates. It wasn’t corny…he kept telling himself. It’s a grand gesture. Getting himself to buy all that stuff for her wasn’t exactly the hard part. He found himself stalling on the way to the F.L. building. He kept going back and forth whether this was a good idea and didn’t help that he had been looked at by several onlookers...
Maybe he should have taken his friend, Andrew, up on his serenading proposal. It wasn’t his style and he doubted he’d be much of a singer even with Andrew in tow but atleast he’d have company. This all felt utterly stupid as he reached the corner of the hall next to the door. Breathing heavily at the square vertical window on the door, he caught a glimpse of her at a seat beneath a window. She was directly under the sunlight. Now on a normal day you’d think he’s start having his eyes dilate and think of sappy, cheesy stuff about her but no…at that moment all he could think of was-
Crap. She’s there. Ohhhh…boy. This doesn’t exactly help my nerves. What am I doing here?!
Stage fright overcame him but it seemed too late because one of her friends, the smart looking one with the glasses already caught sight of him and made an excited face. She whispered to her other friends and all the other girls he kept seeing with her looked at him. He made a silly small wave at them wondering if he looked as hopeless as he thought he did. He felt awkwardly tall like a giant about to trample on stuff without meaning to and he wanted to smack himself on the head. Is it too late to turn around?
The girl with the glasses stood up from her seat and whispered something to the teacher. The teacher was a thin woman with curly hair, which he recognized as one of the teachers usually exclusive for ABComm. The teacher looked up at him and beamed knowingly which didn’t exactly help. One of the other girls took out a little speaker and connected it to an mp3 and clicked something-
That was his cue…
He opened the door and
At that moment it was as if the sound of his entrance was the loudest most ear splitting sound he bet those students have ever heard in their life. All the other kids looked up from the activity or whatever it was they had been writing and looked at him…including her.
He was carrying flowers and chocolates so there wasn’t exactly a back up excuse for him to say like “I made a mistake with the rooms or something” so there was no escaping this. He kept his eyes locked on her and for a split second she looked panicky. She smiled though, which seemed like a good sign and it was enough to motivate him to continue. There was background music, which he suspected came from the music her friend was playing in the speakers. He caught sight of her other friends taking out gifts. He approached her…which would’ve been real smooth had he not bumped into a couple of desks along the way. She looked from right to left, probably not wanting to believe that all this was for her. But who else had her birthday today? Some guy with spiky hair and a Domo bag on his desk wolf whistled and cheered her name which got the rest of the class to start saying “Yiiii” in melting tones. Their reaction sort of comforted him as if they were also cheering him on and it gave him the strength to go on. Once he reached her she couldn’t help but cover her face with her hands.
