It was hard to see in the poorly lit hallway to my apartment as I shifted along the shaggy old carpet, sliding my hands along the wall for support. My body ached with every movement trying to desperately feel every number along the door hoping it was my own. "410....412.......414!" I dragged my hand down the wall exhausted and anxious to collapse on my bed and make up in the same position.
Pulling out my keys I felt through the various knick-knacks I had aquired over the years some circular and smooth and others with ominous ridges, not remembering what they were in my dazed statetried all four of them to no avail when finally of course the last one sinks in and the chambers unlock. I let out a sigh of relief. I push the door open just enough to get through and close it behind me, locking it.
I pull off my snug shirt and it slides off my body releasing its shape it fit around me. Then I feel the breeze against my chest and open my eyes to see the window wide open, wind blowing in the drapes gently. The moonlight and cold giving me a sudden awareness to my surroundings.
There on the left wall next to the bedroom door is a figure looking like a woman leaning up against the doorway with her arms crossed. The white moonlight etches out the wrinkles in her shirt and shiny leather jacket pants and boots but the most noticable thing was her full beautiful lips that glistened. She turned her head toward me as if just noticing and her pupils radiated whitish blue light.
"Hey Rel." She said and walked out infront of the window making her messy hair cast a shadow over me and give my eyes a rest from the light." You really should keep your guard up I mean this place is hardly what I'd expect such a prominant person like you living in."
She was referring to the one bedroom shabby apartment with clothes aslew every which way and used furnishings.
"I try not to draw too much attention to myself I'm retired." I said still not fully getting what was going on my mind was too out of it to think at the moment.
She chuckled to herself with a light nonchalant tone that seemed to glide along the acoustics of the room."Not trying to draw attention to yourself? You weren't that hard to find the 6'7 guy wearing a burnt up mask beating the shit out of any shady face that comes into an alley within a 2 mile radius here. You're not a vigilante Rem." She leaned up against the couch. "You never were."
"What are you doing here anyway? I'm not causing any trouble for the guild am I? Just let me live out the rest of my miserable days regretting what I've done." I said starting to wake up.
"You don't get to do that Rem, we all have to deal with it you can't just be the second best necrosite in the guild and leave and think it's all over. It's NEVER over and your little childish superhero games are cute but they don't come near to fixing all the shit you've done for us."
"So what you want me back?" I said starting to feel that hot headedness again. I blinked and my eyesight flooded to a hue of green.
"No." She said and pulled out a long sharp knife that looked to absorb the moonlight and flicked it back to her hand."We want you dead!"
She lunged at me with the knife. My eyes caught every slight movement in neon green slow motion I grabbed her elbow and transferred her weight and force into my advantage. I then threw her at twice the speed into the wall behind me.
"I guess you didn't read my file kid, or else you would've known not to take on someone like me hand to hand." I said through my teeth which were starting to extend down my gums.
"Oh I knew good and well what I was getting into because I'm the new number 2!" She howled and withdrew a glowing orb that in my Necrostate looked green but from previous experience I knew was blue and swallowed it whole. The whole thing was crushed in her mouth and spread through her body in a glowing pulse. "They found me the in the same hell they found you Remenence!" Her voice seemed to distort into 3 different registers. Her skin looked as if to singe off in web like black layers until you could see her skeleton and her body was glowing with sharp flames behind it in blue. Her hands turned into large obsidian blades.
"Damn..." I braced myself for another set of burns.
