Panic. A sudden overwhelming feeling of anxiety or fear, with or without cause, that produces hysterical or irrational behavior. It causes the fast beating of the heart, heavy sweating and very often, shivering; leaving a person in a vulnerable state. Panic usually creates a fight-or-flight situation in humans.

Panic. That was the first thing that I felt when I woke up the next morning; all alone in an unfamiliar room. "Calm down," my inner self hissed at me. "Focus on your breathing first before you get a panic attack." I have to admit, as annoying as she is, she can be really helpful at times.

I did just that, concentrating on my breathing and trying my best to calm down. Slowly, memories of last night came back to me. My cheeks started burning at the thought of Jayden carrying me to bed. Just then another thought came to me and I immediately looked beneath the sheets to see that I was still in last night's clothes.

I had guessed that I was still in Jayden's apartment

I had guessed that I was still in Jayden's apartment. I decided to look around a bit before going in search of him. The room was all white, warm and cozy with a floor-to-ceiling window alongside an amazing view of the New York city. It was beautiful. I truly liked it. I turned to my right, to which there was a closet and a door which I assumed led outside. In front of the bed was a plasma tv and a table alongside a chair. Just beside was another door. I pulled it open to reveal an equally modern and luxurious bathroom. It even contained a bathtub.

After spending half an hour getting ready, I went in search of  Jayden. The closet was empty when I looked for something to wear but surprisingly, two bags of clothes sat on the bed after my shower. They were simple and comfortable, exactly what I prefer: jeans, black t-shirt and pumps. There was also a pair of black lace underwear. I wondered whether Jayden had chose them for me. That thought did make me feel uncomfortable.

My mind was reeling with the events of last night. The fact that I was basically homeless was yet to settle in. I didn't even know what to do, how to react. I didn't think it was possible for so much to happen in one single night. It was too much for me to take in... Becoming the new HR manager, my past life coming in front of me just like that, losing my apartment. I was somehow still in denial.

I finally found him in the kitchen and in front of him laid what I viewed as heaven. Pancakes, bacons, poached eggs and what not. I let out an embarrassing squeal of delight. Jayden chuckled which seemed to bring me out of my reverie and my cheeks turned beetroot.

"Good morning, Butterfly. I was just waiting for you. Come join me," he invited instantly.

That was certainly not an offer for me to resist. I immediately sat down beside him and greeted him back. I started piling up my plate with bacon, egg, pancakes, hash browns and my favourite berries with orange juice on the side. That was my ideal breakfast idea, especially the pancakes with maple syrup and berries. We ate in a comfortable silence which was only broken by my occasional moans and Jayden's chuckles which accompanied them. But as soon as we finished eating, his face turned serious and I braced myself for he was about to say. I mean, this is the part where he will tell me that I need to leave, right?
