Camellia Kain

Camellia sat in the middle of the camp, fighting a constant battle against sleep. It had been nearly three days since she had last slept, too alert and on edge to do so. Lilith, Demetre, and Silas had taken up residence at the south edge of their camp, each trying to avoid each other. Camellia found interest in how different their three new colleagues were.

Lilith was a Leviathan, thought to be heartless murders, but Camellia could see the love she had for her sister. Demetre, an Elf, had a distinctive quality that spelled trouble. As for Silas, he was the mystery. He was composed, impassive, foreign, and half two different types of Fey. Camellia had never seen one, let alone thought they existed.

And she knew why. She could feel the immense power radiating from him.

He had been the reason Camellia had felt the three of them before they had arrived. A pulse of overwhelming power.

It had been nearly three hours since Evianna had disappeared with Zachariah into the woods. Camellia had noticed over the past few days the way Zachariah constantly watched Evianna, always stepping in to protect her without hesitation. Evianna was better at hiding her feelings by staying silent, never looking at Zachariah unless she thought no one else noticed. Camellia didn't want to think about what they were doing alone in the woods.

Camellia pretended not to notice Malachi as he took a seat next to her, his arm nearly brushing her shoulder.

Do anything and I'll stab you. She thought.

"You need to sleep," Malachi told her.

"I'm fine."

"I made a deal to get you safely through this trip." Malachi countered, annoyance creeping into his voice. "I can't do that if I have to carry you to Avania because you've exhausted yourself."

"We have horses." She hissed.

"And how come they get to have all the fun?" Malachi grinned, before adding. "Hopefully we will be arriving in Avania by tomorrow. I need you to keep your head low. We don't take well to your kind, especially after the peace treaty fell through."

"You mean after I ran away." Camellia corrected. "And you're forgetting, I made it into the palace and nearly assassinated your brother."

"And if you are seen, I may not be able to help. You're wanted, whatever name you take."

"I made a mistake last time that won't happen again. The assassins don't take kindly to failure." She replied with bitter amusement.

A look of concern clouded his dark eyes.

"What did they do?"

Camellia raised an eyebrow, innocently. She hadn't said a single thing about them doing a thing to her.
