Chapter #1

Raves and apples

"Beeeeeep"

A car horn blares. I lay in bed wondering why I chose to wake up so early. Then I remember it's not my chose. "Beeeep" goes the horn again. "Shit" I say as I open my eyes. It's 8:30. I am so late. I run to my messy closet. Sports bras and Climbing shirts cover the floor. I pick up my "positive Altitude" shirt and pull on my dark blue spandx. Then I look in the mirror, my dark brown hair still tided up from yesterday's practice and my face looking like I just came back from a 3 night rave. "Whatever" I say as I run into my bathroom. Re-applying eye liner was not a chose so instead I wiped down my face and brushed my teeth. Then I hear my little brother screaming "ALLIE, JESS AND WILL ARE HERE!" "I KNOW IDOIT" I scream back. I ran out of the bathroom and down the stairs. On our dinning room table sat a note from my mother "of to France for a week" it said. My mom was never around. She was always at a press conference in New York or a fashion show in Paris. You name it, she's modeled there. I ran into the living room where my 12 year old brother sat playing GTO 4. "Bye Ben" I said as I kissed him on the head. "I'm going climbing I will be back at 12:30" "Ya ya okay bye loser" he said in a taunting voice. I flipped him of then ran out to the car with my climbing bag in one hand and a apple in the other.

Chapter #2

Sorry moments

"Allie, what in the world took you so long to get out here!" Said my best friend Jess. Jess was a boxer. She was strong and tough but she needed me. I met Jess in 6th grade when she moved to our town, we have been best friends ever since. Next to her sat my other best friend Will. He plays hockey. We have been friends for years. He has a girlfriend named Lara but we hate her. He moved to our town in 5th grade. His mom died when he was 12 but he never told me what had happened. Every Saturday Jess picks Will and me up at 8:20 and bring him to hockey, me to rock climbing and herself to boxing. Then at 12:30 she picks me and Will up and we go to my house and work on homework. " bye Will!" We say tauntingly as he jumps out of the car. He flips us of and runs towards the rank. I reach towards the dashboard and turn on the radio. "Severe flash flood warning for California from 4 am Sunday to 6 am Tuesday." I look at Jess we both know by that means only one thing. A hurricane is coming. "SHOOT! I have *CTWC on Wednesday!!!" Jess looked at me with sorry eyes "maybe the Hurricane wont come this time" but we both knew that was not true. I star out the window and watch the rain run down the tinted window. "Jess" I say, she looks over at me, "do you ever wonder what happened to Wills mom? "Allie," Jess says, "I wonder all the time but Ben never talks about her, and his dad never even talks to Ben." I turn back to my window and let the rain occupy my thoughts.

*CTWC (climbing the west coast) is the biggest rock climbing compaction in the west.

Chapter #3

Falling up

That day at training the word was out about the flash flooding. Most of the climbers we panicked, not for the reason more people think. when you hear about flash flooding and hurricanes you think of hiding your babies and trees falling on your house and such. When climbers on the west coast hear about flash floods and hurricanes they think of how shitty it would be if the Climbing the west got canceled.

The day went on with me climbing and bouldering and such. The think about climbing is that you forget how long you have been at it. when I finally took a break I ducked outside. The rain was coming down so hard I thought it would break the roof. Then I ran back inside before I ruined my shoes. I walked inside and looked around. If you look closely at the people climbing you can always see the 'Clichés'. Over on the *bouldering wall you see the muscles and abs (the hot guys), next to them you see the chalk girls (the flirts), near them you see the speed-wall climbers (the over achievers) then you see my friends and I (the tall wall climbers). Lastly you see the people talking in small groups in hushed voices even though the music is to loud to hear them. There the trainers (basically the scariest people/felling-less robots here.) Allie" yelled my climbing partner Sam. "I need somone to try this new corse, will you climb it for me?'' he said with a unreadable grin. "Sure" I yelled over the music and ran towards the wall. Sam clipped me in and *slacked out my rope. I met Sam 4 years ago. We train together so much we decided it would just be best to be partners. Once we started climbing together, it just felt right."Are you sure you can do this, its pretty tought"he said in a sarcastic voice. "well" I said "Im am going to climbing the West coast aren't I?" "Ha, not if the rain is going to turn into a hurricane" Sam said with a madder-of-fact ish voice. "Whatever" I screamed over the music, and with that I pushed of the ground and onto the wall.

My hands were marked up and close to bleeding and even the tape and chalk could not help me. I never even checked my clip. When I was about 40 feet of the wall my hands sliped. I knew that the rope would keep me from falling, but even a expert like me still gets a little scared. I leaned back in my harness and swung out. for a minute I was flying, my arms spread out and my legs dangling below me. I hadn't done that in years. Then it happed. My clip un-lached. Again, I was flying but instead of staying in the air, I fell like a rock. I saw soft floors racing towards my face. Before I could hit the floor I fliped on my back.

*bouldering is a version of rock climbing were there are no ropes & harnesses, the walls are about 17 feet hight with big mats below. Most walls require a lot of upper body straight. At the top of the wall you top out ( go over the the wall onto a walkway behind the wall)

*slacking out the rope means to pull all of the slack out so the rope is tight.

Chapter #4

Doctors

Waking up in a hospital on a Saturday afternoon is not my definition of fun. When I open my eyes at first all I see are 3 blobs. Then the blobs turn into people, then the people turn into Mom, Ben, and Sam. My mom starts to tell me how happy she is that I'm okay and that nothing is broken. "what happed" I said weekly as I cut her of. My mom and brother both look at Sam, then step out of the blue hospital curtains. sam slowly walks up to my bed.

" Look, Allie," he says weekly, "your clip was not screwed on all they way and you fell off your rop." "Im so sorry I forgot to check your clip" he says with and sad tone of voice. "And to clear things up for you I didn't do this on purpese, some people are saying that I did this so I could take your place in climbing the West Coast." "I am so so so so sorry Allie." I sit there in silence, stunded. He was such a bad lier. Of corse he did it on purpose, he is my back up for CTWC! "Im sorry Sam," I sneer at him "I was brought up to never trust a lier."He looks at we with his deep brown eyes "you really thing I would to hurt you!" "We have been climbing partners for 3 years, I think by now you should have learned to trust me" he says to me. I knew that was true but CTWC was a big thing, you could get on the USA team. The stakes we high and we both knew it. I refocused myself back to Sam. I look at him. His chin is slightly rounded that goes perfectly with his hight cheek bones. His dirty blonde hair looks messy like he has been without a brush for days. His skin looks paler then normal, probably form the lack of sun, but somehow he still looks amazing. I realized I have been spacing out and I let my eyes slowly come back into focus. all of a sudden I am aware of what I look like when I realize I have been spacing out at Sam. My brown hair is knotted in the back and all I am wearing is a hospital gound. Sam's eye lock on mine and for that moment I realize how this must feel for him. Think about this: the person you have trusted with your life many many times now doesn't trust you anymore, and worse she thinks your tried to ruin her carrier. I sit up and realize Im still spacing out. I look over to Sam. He is staring at the ground with hurt eyes and a broken heart. "Sam" I say. "I trust you,.. just please never pull this crap on me again" he looks up. I can see the happiness spring back into his eyes and all of a sudden he looks 10 times nicer then he did before. "Im glad you know that I would never, ever try to hurt you Allie" he wispers. Then he takes my face in his rough hand.... and kisses me.

Chapter #5

Goals

Wills pov

"Slide left, slide right, dive, block, hit repeat." "Slide left, slide right, dive, block, hit repeat." This pattern repeats in my head every practice. I work hard in hockey. Harder then anyone really thinks. Sweat collects under my heavy uniform. I get lost as I repeat the moves again and again. After a while, my coach stops us for a talk about what to work on and who we're playing next game; I just tuned him out. I was busy thinking about Lura, we were going to play mini golf today but I had a feeling the rain wouldn't let us. Will....Will," I hear my name and I quickly turn to the voice they is repeating my name. "Yah, what." I say in a far of voice. "Will have you been paying action at all" my coach says in a mad tone. My face goes bright red and the coach rolls his eyes at me, then continues to tell use how we will not have practice because of the bad flooding. I hear a crack of thunder outside and I turn to face the small window on the door. It's raining cats and dogs. This is what the radio was talking about. A hurricane. Crap. This is really bad. I felt my eyes begin to burn but quickly shook the tears away. I remember my dad telling me the news, me running to my room crying for hours. The tears stinging my eyes and my hands shaking.
