the sound of light rain filled mark's ears in a sort of serenity. the pitter patter of the rain repeated, over and over, repeat, repeat, repeat. the rain reminded mark of himself in a way. the rain repeated relentlessly, never falling in a mess of half formed drops. it was always the same.
always. mark never changed. he repeated the same things, day after day. repeat, repeat, repeat. sleep, wake up, eat, go to work, come home, eat, sleep, repeat.
but today was different. today mark woke up unconcerned with work or his daily repetition. the only thing on his mind was the outcome of the dinner. no matter the things he'd attempted to convince himself the night prior, mark still couldn't shake off the fishy feeling he'd always got whenever jinyoung's parents were mentioned by their other friends. it almost seemed as if they never left the house regardless of if they're healthy and completely capable of doing so. it had made him wonder countless times if jinyoung himself grew up like that. locked in his home, day in and day out. only being let outside for the sake of his studies. he'd never asked jinyoung about his parents, except for one night. he was quickly shot down and has never spoken up about the couple since, but they always linger in the back of his mind. a past jinyoung that mark didn't know. a completely different person than the one he'd fallen in love with. a younger, more silent and sheltered version of the man he'd learned to love. all these thoughts suffocated mark's mind as he slid out of bed and began his day as usual, wake up, eat, stress.
by the time 5:30 rolled around mark had thought of every possible outcome of tonight's dinner, most of which ended in a fight which mark wasn't excited about. the rarity of him and jinyoung fighting was a blessing and he was not willing to let it slip away because of a meeting with jinyoung's parents. at this point in time mark had laid down on the couch and starred at the ceiling for almost a solid two hours. thoughts and memories whirled around in his head, what if, what if, what if. before mark knew what happened jinyoung was pinching at his neck and whining at him. "maaaark we're gonna be late, get up already." the pout in his voice was so rare that mark couldn't help but let a small smile creep onto his face at the sound. as quickly as he'd laid down mark stood back up with that same small smile adoring his aging features. before he knew what has happening his phone was in his hand , he and jinyoung were out the front door, and sat down in their silver volvo.
the ride to goyang was silent, aside from the small taps of rain against the car's exterior. jinyoung seemed rather distant ever since he'd brought up the idea of mark meetings his parents. it hadn't really taken him by surprise but it was rather uncomfortable and awkward for the both of them, though only when they were alone. when they'd gone out with the boys they'd been as close as ever, talkative and touchy, nothing was different. it was worrying but mark pushed it aside, assuming jinyoung was nervous or something else ridiculous. the only words spoke between the two men during the ride was a small 'were hear' after jinyoung had pulled into the home that he was raised in. mark didn't miss the way jinyoung was hesitant to turn off the car, the way he closed his eyes and let out and inaudible sigh. though the way jinyoung was acting certainly didn't help his worries about the ending of this, he still pushed it aside. jinyoung said it would be fine, so it would be fine. he was being dramatic.

hello hello i finally updated after 17 years i know it's crazy but i'll try and update more often i swear. ANYWASY you may have noticed the style of my writing has changed in a few ways. one of them being this entire chapter is only mark's pov and i think the next chapter will be as well and then i'll do jy's pov later ?? maybe. but another change is just in general the style and format of the writing. i drew insparation from a novel i'm currently reading called "wolf by wolf" i just adore the writing style and i feel like it's very immersive so i kind of tried to replicate that in this chapter. anywho if you liked this chapter or the ones before it please do vote, comment, or share or two or all of them or none idc whatever u wanna do man
