Chapter XIV
Annabel
Junashri had been gone with this 'Randy' guy all day. Tonight was another capture the flag game. Since she has to practice for her quest, she's missing out. I walked with Janaysha as we made our way to the starting position. We were both on the red team, but I really wanted to be on the blue. After all, it was Percy Jackson's team.
"So, do you think Junashri's doing ok?" I asked Janaysha. She knew Junashri a lot better than I did.
"Yeah. She can fight pretty well, and with that boy she's got, there's no doubt."
"Wait. Do you mean 'that boy' in a good or great way?"
"Girl, he fine!" I laughed out loud at her sudden turn of phrase. She never talked like that around us. It took me by suprise when she did.
Finally, the battle cry rang out and behind it were a chorus of others. Our side advanced quickly and fought of the blue diversion. After a few minutes of knocking out kids, I heard Conner's order. Before the game, Conner, Travis, Clarrise La Rue (duaghter of Ares), Stephy Andersons (duaghter of Dionysus), Janaysha, and I met to form a battle strategy. We decided that a small group of four kids should search for the flag after the game began.
I glanced at Janaysha and she was in the midst of knocking the wind out of this buff Ares guy. When she was done, she nodded and we sprinted towards Conner and Travis. After we met up, we caught our breath and began to search the surrounding area.
Out of no where, three, dangerous looking, soldiers ran to us like there was no ma'nana. The four of us stood, back to back, as the three circled us. One of them lurched forward and nearly gave my hair a new look. I slashed back and elbowed his neck. He fell to the ground, moaning.
The other two were busy with my comrads, until this other one jmped out of a tree. He landed directly behind me and lashed at my arm. I yelled in pain and round house kicked him. Maybe those years taking Karate were useful after all.
When he slid on his butt, two more came. They were endless or something, becuase another one approached. He looked sinister, but his build certainly was something else.
"So, your the newbie everyone's talking about. Have any trouble with the little fish lately?"
Wait, how did this dude know about....My thoughts were zooming on my head when I knocked him good in the gut.
"Too bad your fists aren't as fast as your mouth," I spat at him, and ran off to find the others. I met them not to far away, while Conner was talking to Janaysha. He saw me coming and straightened up.
"Ok. You two go look for the flag while Travis and I set up a diversion. Good with that, Annabel?"
"Yeah. Alright. Let's do this." I turned to Janaysha and we ran off. After a while, and no ambushes, we came across a minuscule river. Across the river was a stone base. On the stone base, was a blue banner.
"No," Janaysha said in astonishment.
"Aww yeah." I said while crossing the water.
"No, Annabel. Stop!" Janaysha yelled, but it was too late. Somehow, the kid I knocked a few seconds ago was standing infront of me, sword and my throat.
"Think you coyld get away? Little,"
"Ok. No need to cuss me out, man. I'll just be on my way-" And he slashed my face.
"Ah! What the heck!"
"Can't run this time, twerp." He swung at my knee, and I fell to the ground. I looked over where Janaysha was, and saw she was busy on her own already, with three warriors to deal with. The prick saw me distracted, and ripped open my arm. I yelled and frantically tried to get up. I tried to grab my sword, but the guy sliced my good arm. I was done for.
He kicked me and I landed on my back. I turned around and saw I was on the verge of falling into the deep end of the river. When I turned back around, I got a whole lot of 12 foot boot in my face and crashed the surface. I began to hyperventilate as water surged through my lungs. Wait, am I breathing?
I took in a deep breath and breathed out. How in the world was I not drowning? I then felt a tingling feeling on my leg. I looked at it and saw that the wound was closing up. The the feeling moved to my arm ans I marveled it as the skin was brought back together, magically. The feeling finally moved to my face. I touched my cheek and it felt normally smooth. Then, a light began to glow on top of my head. I couldn't tell what it was,but one thing was for sure: I am now claimed.
I emerged from the water and saw the entire red army on the shore. Their jaws dropped as they saw that I wasn't falling in agony. I saw Janaysha run up to the shore and her hand flew to her mouth.
"What are you gaping at?" I said, scared that the symbol was a not so great god. All of a sudden, Chiron walked out of the woods and clopped next to Janaysha.
"Behold, Camp Half Blood, Annabel Alanis, duaghter of Poseidon."
