Zayne’s POV
“Alright everyone, find your seats. We’re going to start the meeting in ten minutes,” I yell over the crowd. I direct a couple and their kids to some empty seats and send a glare to a child running by me. I’m already exhausted and the thing hasn’t even started yet.
The first official meeting for the Alliance is meeting tonight and everything seems to be going okay. I’ve been so busy with this impromptu gathering that I haven’t even really had a chance to look for the Mastermind behind this ill-planned fiasco. I scan over the throngs of familiar and unfamiliar faces not looking for Luke.
Ever since Wednesday, I haven’t received a call or text from him. Not that I blame him though. He did willingly let me chain him to my bed while I drank his blood. And that couldn’t have been fun.
For the first ten minutes I was in euphoria heaven straddled across his lap sucking as much as I wanted. That was until I felt his body slacken under me and one look at his dazed unfocused eyes coupled with his slowing heartbeat that I felt in my chest, I knew I was starting to take too much. His breathing became shallow and I disengaged my fangs from his neck but a growl kept me immobilized.
I looked up to see him smiling at me, weakly. “Don’t stop until you’ve taken all you need. You can’t let yourself get in this state again,” he replied softly.
“Why?” I asked, shaking my head. “You just got out of the hospital--”
“Almost two weeks ago. It’s not that bad anyway. I’m even feel a bit lighter than I have all week.”
“That might just be from the blood loss,” I mumble.
“You might be right,” he chuckled, his laughter vibrated my chest. “But I think it’s the Wolfsbane leaving my system.” He looked a bit concerned suddenly, “Wolfsbane doesn’t affect you, right?”
“Hmm, that explains the tangy-ness I tasted earlier,” I speculated. I then smiled at him. “Don’t worry. Any disease or drug that is carried in the blood streams stands no match against a vampire’s immune system.”
He nodded in understanding while I talked and then gave me his trademark boyish smile. “Good. Now don’t stop until the color returns to your cheeks.”
I searched his face for any doubts and when I didn’t find any, I nodded and smiled in thanks. “Okay,” I said. “But the moment you lose consciousness, I’m done.”
He lasted for about three more minutes before his head lulled to the side. I hurried to unlock the chains from his legs and arms and saw the burn marks circling his wrist and ankles. I felt instantly guilty but when I tried to talk with him about it, he just shrugged me off and told me not to worry about it as he put back on his shirt. He stumbled as he stood up to leave but pushed me away when I tried to help him stand.
I stood back, puzzled. “Are you sure you’re okay? I can take you home--”
“No, there’s no need for that.”
“Then at least let me get you some orange juice.”
“No really--”
“Enough!” I tell him firmly. “You’re staying here until you’re not veering to the right when you stand anymore. Understood?”
He tried to hold his head up and glare at me but it lost its effectiveness when veered sharply into the door. I shake my head and beared most of his weight on my shoulder as I help him out of my room and down the stairs towards the kitchen.
