Taehyung groans, throwing the recently-sharpened pencil across the room.

"Who knew studying English could be so hard." He remarks sarcastically to himself; staring down at the unfamiliar curve of letters forming incoherent words on the page.

Taehyung sighs, and stands to retrieve his pencil from across his bedroom, when his phone on the nightstand began ringing particularly loud.

Grateful to have an escape from studying for Ms. Johnson's class, he eagerly picks up the call, without first checking the caller I.D.

"Hello?" He asks monotonously, attempting to act as if being on the phone wasn't the best thing that happened to him that day.

Besides getting to see his girlfriend of two years; (Y/N).

"Taehyung," you speak into the cellphone, narrowly dodging a flying plastic toy truck, as it sails across the room; aimed for your head.

"Why does this child have such good aim?" You hiss, earning a confused head tilt from Taehyung.

    "Are you okay?"

You breath heavily, slicking back a few strands of escaped hair from your messy bun, staring at the giggling toddler on the sofa.

"Not necessarily. Can you help me?"

Taehyung grabs his shoes and jacket immediately, already headed towards the door.

"What do you need?" He balances the cellphone on his shoulder as he locks the front door, stepping outside. Thankfully, your family lived on the same street as his.

It was how you to became best friend.

   And then something more.

He doesn't even wait for your response, before he hangs up and sprints to your house.

Hardly a moment later, you look away from the toddler as frantic knocks are sounded at your door. You huff, dropping the phone and standing to answer the door.

Taehyung smiles brightly at you with his heart-melting boxy smile, chocolate brown hair dusting over his forehead. But the smile soon melts at the sight of your dishevelled appearance--with a messy bun, a tee that probably once belonged to him, and shorts.

The obvious smears of paint on your legs, the marker drawings on your forearms, and the clear sight of purple bruises on your limbs from flying toys.

"What happened to you?" Taehyung demands, stepping inside your home and swiftly shutting the front foor behind you. His eyes immediately shift from you, instinctively finding the giggling devil spawn sitting on the sofa.

"Chen. He's just a little..... energetic," You answer, picking at a particular patch of midnight blue paint on your left thigh. "I guess painting wasn't the best idea. I just--" you sigh, walking over to your mom's best friend's son, picking him up.

He giggles, his tiny baby hands immediately finding a stray piece of (H/C) hair.

"Tha-that's not my kid, right?" Taehyung splutters, his jacket falling off his shoulders as he sets it on the back of the sofa, still staring at Chen.

"What--are you serious? This kid is obviously two." You glare at him, but still smile at his cute stupidity.

     "Well--"

"Alright that's enough. I think it's time for Chen's nap time."

"Then why did you call me here?"

"Have you tried putting this one to sleep?" You beckon Taehyung towards the arm chair beside the mantle. With your free hand, you adjust a throne of blankets and fuzzy pillows for Chen, nestling him in.

Immediately, once he wad out of your arms, you grab the play fence and adjust it around the chair.

He may be a violent little thing, but he was smart enough to know that attempting a jailbreak from the playfence was a one-way ticket to time-out.

Without toys to throw at you.

Sure enough, the moment that Chen realized that you didn't intend on coddling him anymore, the tantrum commenced.

   "Holy--"

"Innocent ears, Kim Taehyung!" You scold, reaching up and yanking him behind the sofa, watching the toddler slowly wear himself out.

"Are you sure that's the proper way to put a baby to sleep?" Taehyung asks softly, creeping into the next room over.

"I'm not even sure that Chen is human."

Taehyung remains silent for a moment, thinking.

"Are you sure that isn't my kid?"

    "Yes, Taehyung."
