Miya's feet dangled over the edge of the roof. She fingered her weapon, a chakram, pulling it out from between her shoulder blades, still in wonder at the man (or woman) who invented it.

The chakram was black, and its sharp blades positioned such that the thrower could easily catch it without hurting themselves. Truly a wonderful invention, she thought.

She jumped down with grace from the rooftop, landing to a stop in your garden. "Miya!" Your adoptive mother called. "Get dressed, we're going!"  Miya sighed. She had to attend a ball with the all powerful ruler in the country, Trafalgar Law. Ballrooms, ballgowns, dances, they weren't her thing.

She got dressed and packed her suitcase, putting in her chakram, and some clothes, none of which were dresses. She loaded it onto the carriage, and left the village with her parents.

°Miya's POV°

The journey to the palace was a long one, and I itched to just run and hunt down some game. But no, I had to stay in the suffocating ballgown.

A few hours later, I finally reached your destination. Clambering out of the carriage, I was glad to finally move about, even if restrained by the ballgown. However, once I saw the palace, I stopped, gaping in shock. The quartz pillars that held up the purple towers were simply breathtaking. Two golden trees stood at the sides of the large marble gates. No. Not golden. They WERE gold. I felt a disdain for Law already. Just that amount of gold could feed many families for years! And he uses it to make TREES?

The servants carried my suitcase and one beckoned for me to follow, which I did reluctantly. The bed was humongous, with laced curtains and a full bedside dresser. All this for just one ball? You thought. But there must be so many others who is attending too!  I sprawled onto the bed, then remembered my position. I quickly got up and made sure my hairdo was still okay, and checked on my chakram. Still okay,  I sighed. Well, 3 hours left to stare into space....

☆☆☆Time skip 3 hours ☆☆☆

The time finally rolled over. But 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and finally 30 minutes had passed before the servants came to call me to the ballroom. Oh gawd, I SO am going to be the last one to arrive.

Sure enough, as I stepped into the ballroom, about a hundred people turned to meet my eye. I gulped. Suddenly, a voice boomed over the tittering amongst the people.

"Here comes the guest of honour, Lady Scarlet!" Wait. Guest of Honour? Nobody said anything about that!

Across the room, another majestic flight of stairs led down to the dance floor. Then, with an entrance just as grand as mine, he came in.

Trafalgar D. Water Law.

For someone who supposedly ruled for over a hundred years, he looked young. Way younger than someone who's over a hundred should be. But his eyes. His eyes were sunken in deep into his skull, as if he had not slept for the days he cheated off the laws of nature. How ironic.

I realized I was still standing on the steps and quickly made my way to the dance floor, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible. But Law's eyes found mine, and soon I found myself dancing with him.

"My Lady, how do you like this place?" He asked, trying to make small talk.

This place could feed thousands, but Mr-selfish wants to keep it all for himself. "It's very grand, your highness."

"Glad you like it. So how do you feel about the marriage?"

"Oh, you're getting married, your highness? Word must not have reached my ears. Who is the lucky bride?" I feel so sorry for her.

Law looked at you, puzzled, as if trying to make out truth or false. "My Lady, surely you have heard from your parents? We are betrothed."

The shock came slowly. You stopped dancing, and Law pulled you aside. Me?? With him???

Law's POV

Wow, so this is news to her. But then, as quickly as she could, Miya fled. I went after her, but she had locked herself into her guest room. So much for a great evening. I went back into my bedroom, dejected, pulling out a locket from my drawer, staring at the person in the picture.

Miya-Chan.

~No one's POV~

Heart beats fast
Colours and promises

How to be brave
How can I love when I'm
Afraid to fall

Watching you stand alone
All of my doubt
Certainly goes away somehow

One step closer...

I have died
Everyday
Waiting for you

Darling, don't
Be afraid
I have loved you
For a thousand years..
I'll love you for a thousand more..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"A match made in heaven..."
"They love each other so..."
I...I... What happened? What are they saying?
The bubble in my head popped.
I remembered everything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The screams as the walls burned down in flames. The floor crumbling. He said, "Rest, (y/n). In our next life, I'll be there."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your feet pounded furiously on the marble floor. "Law!" You cried, throwing open the door to his room.
"Yes, Scarlet?"
"I remember everything."
Law blinked twice, and came to his senses. "So you remember me? Remember... Us?"
"That's not the point. How did you survive after all these years? It was... it happened... a century ago. At least."
He chuckled, but the sound was not in the least friendly. "I stole the life energy of others, Miya. I took the hearts of a hundred people and became a genie. Now you, together with me, can live forever!"
I took a step back. "No. No. This is not the Law I knew. He wouldn't hurt anyone."
"I did it for us, Miya. We can be together now." He came closer to you, as you were trying to step back.
"Stay away from me."
His eyes narrowed, and he asked, "Is it someone else?"
"No." You backed up even more, until you bumped into a wall and could go no further.
Law grinded his teeth. "I love you, Miya. I did so much for you. And now you're just going to reject me?"
"I... I need time, Law." By now, you were terrified.
"If you won't be with me, I'll make you."
