"Do you even know what you're doing!?" Cried Scarlett as she watched our partner Marshall fling kitchen knives at a target board blindfolded. He was missing about seventy percent of the time and hitting the wall the board was pinned on instead. Great, a few more holes to hide from our dean. It's a wonder how she hasn't gotten suspicious of the many posters hanging near the target board.
Scarlett was pulling at her red hair so hard I was afraid she might rip a few clusters of it out. "Please stop before you break something Marsh!" She sounded more concerned for the vase sitting on her nightstand than the wall he was putting holes into.
Marshall eventually ran out of knives and removed his blindfold to reveal one knife sitting on the floor, two sticking in our dorm wall, and one just hitting the edge of the board.
"You know Scar, instead of complaining about how awful I am at this is I'd like to see you try and do better." He smugly replied to my red headed friend.
Scarlett hopped off the top bunk of our bunkbed and gathered up all four knives. She ripped the blindfold from Marshall's grasp and pointed for him to sit down on his bed. He obeyed and watched for what she would do next from afar. After I helped Scarlett put the blindfold on I flopped back on my bed and waited for her next move.
She threw the knives with ease hitting the target all four times. Scarlett was probably the most skilled out of the three of us seeing she's the oldest and has the most training. The two of them began to bicker and I silently watched from the bottom bunk of my bed. Marshall was going on and on about how Scarlett somehow 'cheated'.
"My gosh you two argue more than actual siblings do..." I muttered while hopping off the bed. "I mean sure, I'm used to it but seriously guys?" They both looked at each other, then back at me, then they shrugged and Scarlett placed the knives and blindfold back in the box where they came from.
I checked the time and realized if we didn't start getting ready now we were going to be late for mission assignments. Scar and Marsh also noticed what time it was and began to gather their uniforms together. Marshall slipped into the bathroom and that left Scarlett and I alone in the room. We both threw on our red and black uniforms and I started putting away my pajamas when Scarlett spoke up.
"So... you nervous for mission assignments Lou?" I scoffed at her question. "Of course I'm not, why would I be?" She put her pajamas away and leaned on her drawer to close it.
"Well what if we are going on different missions this time around?"
I pondered her question for a while. Dean Nancy wouldn't split us up, would she? We've always been partners since day one. I came into the academy with no one but Marshall and Scarlett. I couldn't imagine having a different team. We kick ass and have a good laugh about it later on.
No. She would never break us apart.
I raised my arm triumphantly as I faced her. "Nancy would have to be stupid to break up the three musketeers!"
Scar chuckled and brushed a piece of her hair out of her face. A few moments later Marshall stepped out of the bathroom fully dressed in his uniform and we all headed down to the training hall. Not talking at all, but thinking. Thinking about what our new mission would be. Thinking about if we would be partners again or not. Thinking about how dangerous things could get and if we would make it to see another day. These were the thoughts I usually had on mission assignment day.
