We woke up early that morning, confused. We heard screaming, yelling, and things being thrown around. My sister went up to go see what was going on. When she came back she told me mama left. I was too little to understand what she was saying so I just sat in silence. We knew mama would be back soon because when she leaves she's never gone for long. When she needs money she will be running back to daddy as always. At 4 my sister could take care of me and her. At a time when I could talk I called her my mother. We got left alone a lot so it took me a while to do things on my own. Daddy worked all the time trying to support us and all Mama did is give herself away to anybody who wanted some. She used to tell us we should be more like her. I always admired my Father. He was the real role model. My daddy never complained about having us all by himself. He worked, came home, did laundry, and cooked. Alaura cooked during the day. At 4 she sure did know how to take care if herself. She always made sure I had the things I needed before she worried about herself. That's a true sister I have.
