"Welcome to Liber."
Their underground village was beautiful.
It was a huge contrast from the surface of the planet Liber.
Short, stone buildings dotted the terrain. Man-made streams of water snaked around it all. Farming grounds were down to the left. Training areas were off to the right. The citizens were all going about their individual lives, each helping to sustain their way of life in a unique way.
Hunk had contacted Allura and Coran about the Liber freedom fighter situation, and had told them to come join.
"Wow, this is amazing," you gasp, taking in the scene in front of you.
Alec gave you a smile. "May I escort you to the gardens? Connor and Qwert have offered to show your paladin friends around the village and have them meet the other Libers."
"Sure of course! But can Lance come? He'd probably want to see it too," you reply.
Alec blushed, "I actually meant for just you and me," he emitted a nervous laugh.
Your eyes widened. "Oh, right. Sorry, I didn't know you wanted it to be just us two."
"No worries," he assured. Connor the Balmera and Qwert the Diligite led the rest of the group to the opposite direction, where most of the citizens had gathered in curiosity.
Connor spoke up, "Everyone, please welcome our guests, the paladins of Voltron."
The Libers cheered for the five paladins, swarming them and thanking them profusely.
Alec led you to the gardens as the paladins were being celebrated. The gardens were filled with flora that were completely different from the type of plants on earth.
"Do you like it?" He queried, watching as you stared in amazement at all the vibrant colors.
"I love it," you answered truthfully. It was like nothing you'd ever seen before.
"It is quite something. So tell me about yourself (Y/n)," says Alec, strolling past a wall of ivy.
"Okay. Whaddya wanna know?"
He thought for a moment before answering. "What is it like where you're from?"
"Well, earth is definitely not much compared to some of the planets I've seen, but it's home. I miss it. Life was a lot easier back then, too. There were even only two types of weather: hoodie weather, and weather where you wear a hoodie anyway."
Alec nodded, despite not understanding completely. "It sounds wonderful."
"It is," you state sadly. "Sorry, that uh, took a depressing turn. Next question?"
He hesitated, not sure whether or not he should ask the question that had been on his mind ever since he saw the way you looked at a certain paladin of Voltron. "Have you ever been in love?"
You stopped in your tracks. The question took you by surprise.
But what surprised you even more, was the fact that you knew if you answered with the word 'no,' it wouldn't have been the truth.
"I...I don't know..."
///
Alec had stayed with you the entire rest of the evening, even during the feast that the Libers had made in honor of Voltron.
He was definitely cute, but not really your style. You escaped Alec during the feast, sitting beside the first person you saw: Keith.
"Hey," Keith grinned, happy to see you, "Finally done hanging with that weird dude?"
"Who, you?" You ask jokingly.
He playfully elbowed you. "Shut up."
Where's Lance? you wonder, searching the crowd for him. You saw Allura and Hunk eating the delicacies that the Libers offered, and Shiro, Pidge and Coran talking to Travis and Rubeus, but no Lance.
Lance spots you and waves. He glances at Keith beside you and forces a smile.
He mouths, "I'll be over there," while pointing behind him, towards where Shiro was. He sent you a quick thumbs up, gesturing towards Keith, giving you a subtle wink.
You laugh, but pout slightly as you nodded to him. You turned back to Keith and continued your previous conversation.
The plan worked, Lance thought. It hurt his heart to see it finally come to an end, but it was for the best. For your happiness.

Lance later found himself talking to a Liber, who seemed to keep inching closer to him as they spoke.
"So what's it like saving the universe?" Asks the Liber, whose name was Alium.
"Exhausting. But it's worth it. The free food isn't too bad either," answers Lance.
She laughs, "Well, if you ever wanna visit this side of the galaxy for some free food, I'd love to be able see you again."
Suddenly, he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see you, with an unreadable expression on your face.
"I need to talk to you," you state, your tone all too serious.
He's confused, "Where's Keith?"
"Not important. Come on."
Lance excuses himself from Alium, who frowned at his departure.
You led him out of the underground city, back to the surface.
You and him went back into the Altean ship and sat him down inside the common room. "I have to tell you something."
"I kinda figured. I mean you did drag me all the way here," he teased.
You rolled your eyes and smiled, "Come on, I'm trying to be serious."
"Sorry, sorry. Go ahead, I'm all ears."
You sighed. "Keith asked me out."
"Congrats!" He exclaimed, raising his hand for a high five. "I'm really happy for you."
"You are?" You ask, halfheartedly returning his high five.
"I mean, that was the point of the plan, right?"
"Right," you agree, deep in thought.
"My genius plan of course. You can thank me later. Also, the girl I was talking to earlier asked me out, kind of."
"What did you say?" You ask intently.
"Nothing, you snatched me away before I said anything."
You chew on your bottom lip, not sure whether or not to say what you were planning to tell him. You both sat beside each other waiting for the other to say something. The silence was enough to make you want to scream.
You two were thinking the same thing. That maybe this whole plan had sparked feelings that weren't supposed to occur. Feelings that neither of you expected to happen. Feelings that were faked to the point where it became real.
And maybe, this whole plan didn't seem so foolproof anymore.
Finally, Lance shattered the silence with a question that he didn't know would change everything. "What did you tell Keith?"
"I told him no."
