I hate this. I hate this sound. This is the sound that satan rings in your ear for laughs. That damned alarm clock ringing. It was the first day of school and I can already feel my stomach flop.
I groaned and hit the top of the clock trying to get a few more minutes of sleep. I couldn't. My father was banging on my door telling me the day was wasting away. It was 5:30 am and the day was apparently wasting away already. I hated to admit it, but my daddy knew best. If I didn't get up now, I would waste the entire day in bed.
I got up and washed my face. I didn't have time to shower or else i'd miss my bus. Why does school have to start so early? Do they really think we'd achieve anything half dead?
"Jameson! If I have to take you to school i'll be late for work! Better get a move on!"
"Okay, Dad! I'm moving!" I replied struggling with my shirt.
I was dressed in my Queen tshirt and decided to put my navy blue pull over on top of it. I knew my parents would frown at my shirt because he was a "bad role model" for the youth. Spreading his, "alternative" lifestyle. If only they knew.
I ran downstairs while buttoning my blue jeans. I could smell mama's good homecookin'. It was waffles, sausage and eggs today. Of course it was a special day. I had just sat down when my fork was taken out of my hand.
"The bus'll be here in a few minutes James. You'll have to take it to go." My mama said as she handed me a breakfast sandwich.
"Alright. Dang bus." I grumbled.
"If you was up on time-"
"I know, I know." I cut my dad off.
"Jameson! You better not start giving attitude!" He sternly said.
"Yes sir." I replied immediately.
"Now get join'. Here's some lunch money. I expect that lawn to be mowed before I get off work."
"Yes sir. Bye mama, bye daddy. See you later."
"Have a good day at school!"
I ran on the bus before the driver closed the door. He frowned at me and I sheepishly smiled as I walked on and went to sit next to my best friend. Jackson chuckled as I sat down. I rolled my eyes and gave him one of the breakfast sandwiches.
"You know, I haven't made breakfast for the past couple years because I know you are always late and have to take it on the go."
"Gee thanks. Now I know why you hang around me."
"I also hang around you to copy your homework. Don't forget that."
We laughed and ate our breakfast. Jackson provided sunny D from his backpack and we talked about school. I was nervous but Jackson was excited to go to a bigger school with bigger desks and toilets.
When the bus pulled up to the school my nerves were all over the place. I looked over at Jackson who didn't seem nervous at all. In fact he was smiling.
