Survival Skill 24: Thou must freaking calm down

“Jamie! Jamie! Jamie!” I kept calling as I knocked on Jamie’s bedroom door twice by each word. I had been doing this for the past half an hour now and my knuckles felt like they were going to fall off.

“He’s not going to answer that, you know.”

I jumped and spun around in a jolt to see my mother, leaning against the wall. “What?”

“I tried doing that a thousand times already, George.” she said, walking up to me and placing a hand on my shoulder. “He doesn’t budge.” Apparently, Jamie got angry with Mom, too, making Mom go to desperate measures and form a temporary alliance with me so that we could try to get Jamie to come around together.

“Mom,” I began, “he will.” I was skeptical with my own statement but I had to stay positive. “Besides,” I said loudly and I was sure Jamie could hear it through the door, “we’re not going to give up, until he does, right?”

Mom smirked as she watched me continue to knock annoyingly at Jamie's door. She patted my head and whispered, “Good luck, George,” to my ear before going downstairs.

“Jamie! Jamie! Jamie!” I continued my assault on Jamie's door. “Jamie! Jamie! Ja - “

The door busted open to a very annoyed-looking Jamie. “Can you be more annoying?”

“Well, I am related to you.” I shot back.

Glaring, he stepped out and closed his door from behind. He crossed his muscular arms over his white shirt-clad chest. “Talk.”

“You're being a little over the to - “

“Stop.” He began turning the knob from behind.

“DON'T YOU DARE GO BACK IN THERE JAMIESON OR THE NEXT THING I'LL BE KNOCKING OFF WOULD BE YOUR TEETH.”

That made him stop and he grunted. “You don't get it, do you?” he asked through gritted teeth.

“I get it.” I answered the same way. “You are upset because you think I'm treating you like a stupid child for not telling you the real reason why Mom and Dad got that divorce.”

“Which you are!”

“Because it's not needed.”

“When do you get to judge what's needed and not needed in my life?”

“Why are you making a big deal out of this?”

“Because this whole situation fvcking hurts,” His arms fell to his sides as he burst out. My throat felt dry at the moment and even though I tried to open my mouth, nothing came out so he continued as he brushed past me. “The whole thing fvcking hurt my ego, my feelings, my whole morality of what happened with this family is down the drain. I felt proud of a man who thought was this cool guy who had no faults whatsoever. A family downfall that I thought I knew like the back of my hand. And my older sister made decisions for me because she thinks I can't handle them on my own.”

Letting out a sigh, I turned to him. “Listen, Jamie, I think you should calm down.”

He sighed and buried his face on his face. “I know,” he admitted, his hands falling down. “Everything's just going crazy in my head right now.” I tried to touch his arm reassuringly but he jerked it away. “But I won't be able to calm down here.”

I looked up at him, confused. “What?”

“I'm still mad at you and I can't keep myself from feeling angry with Mom.” he explained, rubbing his temples. “I'll be at Bethany's.” He brushed past me and entered his room. After a few seconds, he had his jacket in hand and didn't even glance my way as he made his way downstairs.
