“ 'kay, my turn. " Soph exclaims. Dylan, James, Soph, Skylar and I are huddled around a circular table, playing a game of questions. We all have a turn to ask someone any question we want and the person that is questioned has to answer truthfully.

It's been almost three weeks since school started. James and Dylan have become close friends of ours, they really are great guys. Dylan and Soph kind of have a thing, it's pretty cute, but he still hasn't asked her out on a proper date.

“ Hey Maryah, who was your first kiss? " Soph asked, right eyebrow raised. Everyone huddled in to hear my answer, even Soph, but she knew.

“ Um... I-I haven't had my first, um, kiss. " I twisted my hands around, a nervous twitch that I've had for as long as I can remember.

“ Wait, you're 15, 16 in a few months and you haven't had your first kiss? " Dylan asked, actually curious.

“ Well... I want it to be someone special, I mean, you only have one first kiss. " I tried to argue, failing to get my point across. Truth is, I just haven't found someone that I want to kiss, other than celebrities. But that is simply unrealistic.

“ I don't understand, " James looked at me straight in the eyes, “ how come someone so beautiful hasn't been kissed yet? " My cheeks felt flushed. They were probably more red than Osyrin's firetruck red lipstick. I shifted around in my seat, uncomfortable about the attention I was recieving.

After a long moment, someone cleared their throat. “ Okay, my turn. " Skylar said, switching the topic. That's one of the reasons I love Sky, she know's when I feel uncomfortable and need someone to take the attention away. Sophie introduced us about two years ago and we've been friends since. “ Dylan, here's a question for you. " she smirked.

“ Fire away. " he replied, setting his elbows on the table before him, finger tips pressed together as if he was at an important board meeting.

“ When do you plan on asking Sophie out? " Skylar smiled deviously. Everyone's eyes were set on Soph, who's face got really red and shuffled around awkwardly in her seat.

“Um... I-I d-unno... " he replied angling his head down, looking at the floor as if it would help hide his flaming cheeks. I lean down to grab my cellphone. I click the screen open, it's already 4:00pm.

“ Sorry guys, I've got to split, if I'm not home in ten minutes my mom will flip. " I said, grabbing my backpack and swinging it over my shoulder. “ I'll see you guys later! "

“ Bye! " they all replied, quickly waving at me as I headed towards the exit.

~three hours later~

I'm lying on my bed flipping through my instagram, bored out of my mind. I keep replaying what James said to me. Someone so beautiful. Me? Beautiful? He must be blind, I'm not beautiful. I'm just average, nothing special. My best trait has to be my eyes, only because they change colour from blue to green depending on weather and mood.

I drop my phone on to my bed and flip through my notepad until I find an empty page. I'm not exactly sure what to draw so I draw a quick squiggle while I shut my eyes. My dad had taught me to do this when I wasn't sure what to draw. He was an amazing artist. When I was younger, he would draw dragons and all sorts of cool mythical creatures and people. He had taught me all I know about art. He passed away two years ago to bone marrow cancer. I think of him everyday, I miss him so much.

I open my eyes after a moment of silence. I had drawn a single line near the top left corner. It had a slight curve as it came down and stopped in the middle of the page. I immediately see an image that I can draw.

I hear a buzzing sound next to me. I place my pencil down and look at the screen. I read the name off of the screen, it's James. I slide my finger across the screen to answer the call. Pressing the speaker button, I replied, “ Hey James, what's going on? "

After a moment of hearing things shuffling around on the other end, he finally speaks. “ Hey, sorry about that, had to put you on speaker. What's up?

“ That's fine. Nothing much, I'm just drawing. " I say as I continue drawing extremely detailed feathers.

“ Cool, what are you drawing? "

“ It's a secret. " I giggled.

“ Well, how about when you're done, we can meet up at park Harriet Rose, eh? " I could practically hear him smirking through the phone.

“ I don't know James, it's pretty late and I honestly don't feel like being raped at ten thirty pm on a Friday night. " I said . My biggest fear was being raped and I hated the dark.

“ I'll walk over to your house then and we can walk there together?  Just text me your address and I'll be there before you know it. "

I sighed, no point in arguing about it, “ Okay, deal. "

“ Alright, I'll see you soon. "

“ Bye! " I called, dragging out the e. I tapped the end call button and rolled off my bed. I trotted down the stairs, swinging off the railing and sliding into the kitchen, I ask “ Hey mum, can I go hang with James? "

“ Just be home at a reasonable time, okay? " Was her reply. My mom honestly didn't care if i was out this late as long as I was safe.

I heard the the doorbell ring. Already? I thought, it hasn't even been two minutes and he's already here. It usually takes at least five for Sophie to get here. I stuff my note pad into my bag and slide it up my right arm and up on to my shoulder. I walk over to the front door, grip the handle and twist...
