It was summer time in Nome, Alaska. The trees were sparkling green and fresh water gushed threw out the valley. The ice field that kept Balto's home in order, melted into a lake. The only thing that didn't change was the ship. It still laid on an ice cap, that refused to melt. Balto took that as a sign that luck was on his side, but not for long.....

It was mid June and the weather was in the 90's, not the kind of weather you would expect to get in Alaska, too often. Balto felt a chill in the air, he never sensed anything unless there was trouble. Balto gave a quick look around the ship, then gazed threw out the valley, even the trees, nothing.......

"Odd" he proclaimed as a soft breeze echoed threw out.

Balto finally gave up and decided it was best to check on everyone in town. "There ought to be some excitement today" he said to himself as he made his way into town.

So far the day seemed quit, even Nome felt like it was asleep due to the silence. "Strange, it's not like everyone to be inside on a day like this" he said to himself. Once again the familiar chill that Balto sensed earlier returned and it made Balto feel uneasy. "Something's up. I've got to find out what?" he picked up speed and began looking.

Balto searched every corner, every alleyway, and home, until his journey brought him to the edge of town where a large crowd of dogs were gathered around a saw mill. Jenna was amongst them, Kodi too. Then Balto caught his eye on someone he hadn't seen for awhile, someone he loved, someone he let go to find her own path, it was Aleu. Surprised and shocked Balto picked up his pace and ran to her, Aleu saw him coming and did the same.

They hugged......

With tears Balto appeared speechless but attempted to speak "Aleu, how'd you find us? You're back?" Being emotionally drawn, Balto couldn't help it but howl, he loved Aleu for who she was. A year ago he let Aleu leave to lead a pack of wolves across the ocean to the other side where the caribou were. He regretted that, but knew it was it was the right choice, especially for Aleu.

Aleu looked tired but also excited and said "It's a wolf instinct dad, we use our sense of smell, remember. I never forgot your scent" she added.

Balto circled around for good measure to regain his loss for words then spun back to say "are you here to stay? Where's the rest of the pack?" he asked.

Aleu's expression quickly went from excited to sad and said "Unfortunately dad, I'm not here to stay. It's only temporarily until we finished what we came to do."

"And what might that be?" said Balto

Aleu gulped and then answered "Nava has died. The packs are fighting and I can no longer control it. Food is also scarce as many caribou have fled. I came here to seek your aid dad and I'm not leaving until I get an answer" finished Aleu.

Balto began to pace around, he knew Nava, he was the one that brought him and Aleu before the packs  by calling them in his dreams. He was not only wise but he knew how to face any situation that fell before him. Now that he was gone, the packs didn't know what to do. Balto found what he was going to say and said  "your leaderships skills were a bit exaggerated than I first thought, Aleu. But since we are both wolves and also family I will attend to the matter, but when it is finished I shall return to Nome" finished Balto.

Aleu stared at her dad for a long minute, then nodded in agreement.

"When will we leave?" asked Balto

"Alito and I need rest, since it's been a long journey. "Tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn we'll set out" she finished then turned and walked away with Alito.
