Colby's POV
I sneak a glimpse at the clock on the wall.
3:10
I have five minutes before the final bell rings, signifying the end of the school day and the beginning of practice for after-school sports.
I finish my handy work before I quickly wipe my fingers off on a paper towel and place the lid back onto the container of Vaseline and gently replace Courtney's running shoes back into their spot at the bottom of her locker.
Sam, also my best friend since freshman year, picks up the small container of Vaseline and jogs to my locker down the hall to place it in my bookbag.
"So, remind me again why you're putting Vaseline in her shoes?" asks Sam.
"I think it would be fun to prank her, maybe a prank war will come of it. We'll just have to wait and see."
"I just don't understand why you pick on her so much..." Sam remarks as he leans against a nearby locker and glances down at me.
"I just find her reactions very entertaining."
Sam is just about the say something back to me when the final bell rings and students start flooding the halls to go to their lockers. We both follow suit and grab our cross-country bags from our own lockers and head to the locker room to change for practice.
After changing into shorts and my usual practice shirt, Sam and I walk into the gym and begin stretching while waiting for the coach and rest of our teammates to get to the gym.
Suddenly, I find a shoe being shoved into my face. I swat at the hand that is holding the shoe trying to prevent the smelly sneaker from touching my face and failing miserably. I end up missing and getting a glob of Vaseline smeared all over my face.
"Nice try Brock. You do realize that I carry an extra pair of shoes with me, right? Don't think that I won't get you back." Courtney states as she walks around to stand in front of me, grinning the whole time.
"It appears that you already got your revenge ya goof." I retort as I wipe off as much of the Vaseline as I can.
I look over at Sam who is trying very hard to hide a laugh.
"Trust me gloopy, that was nowhere near what I do for revenge. You'll know." She says as she turns back towards the locker rooms, I'm assuming to get her spare pair of shoes.
I hear Sam burst out laughing once Courtney leaves. I whip my head in his direction.
"What's so funny Sammy?"
"You brought that on yourself bud. I can't wait to see what she does for revenge." he says as he starts laughing harder.
I reach up and feel around on my face to find out where all of the Vaseline went before realizing I had a decent sized glob inside my nose.
"YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!" I exclaim as I roll my eyes
"Karma's a bitch bro!" Sam says, still laughing.
I punch his shoulder then get up to clean out as much Vaseline as I could from my nose in the locker room.
Just as I open the locker room door to fix my little problem,
"BROCK!"
I spin around on my heel.
"Yeah coach?"
"Where do you think you're going? We are starting practice late the way it is. We don't have time to wait for you..." the coach trails off before he realizes why I was heading into the locker room, "Alright, everyone outside so we can start practice. Brock, hurry up and meet us at our normal starting spot once you're done."
I simply nod and walk into the locker room. As I step out the locker room after wiping everything off my face, I catch a glimpse of Courtney looking over her shoulder at me smirking.
I scowl and jog to catch up with the rest of the team at the starting area.
"Hey Colbert, you seem to be having issues today." Courtney giggles as she flaunts past me to get to her friend Anna.
I smile as she walks away.
Her giggle is so cute.
After that thought pops into my head, Courtney stops and turns to look at me with a confused look on her face and a slight blush working its way to her cheeks.
What in the hell?
"What?"
"What do you mean?" she asks before giggling again and turning to continue her conversation with Anna.
*******************************************After practice, I quickly run to the locker room to switch out of my sweaty clothes before Sam and I head to his house.
As I walk out of the locker room, I see Courtney talking to Anna with a small smile on her face. I grin as I watch her for a couple more seconds.
I love her smile.
She looks around a bit before her eyes land on me after that thought comes to my mind and rolls her eyes at me.
Eh. It's probably nothing. Most likely girl gossip.
I shrug my shoulders and decide to shoot some hoops with a stray basketball I find in the corner while I wait for Sam to come out since he showers at school in the locker room after practice.
He finally comes out and him and I start the fifteen-minute walk to his house.
