I clearly marked February 14, 2008 on the calendar hanging at the back of my room's door. Don't get me wrong. I do not have a Valentine date. I just got here. But incidentally, that is my first day in the corporate world. I am quite excited. But equally nervous. I am thinking what if I get snobby officemates? I guess that is one of the things a girl like me has to face in her corporate life.

"Hey you, Alex!" Alyssa greeted looking up from the newspaper she is reading as I entered the kitchen.

"Morning!" I greeted back and poured myself a cup of steaming brewed coffee. No sugar for me but with fresh milk.

"You have plans for the day?" Alyssa inquired then put a forkful of pancake and bacon in her mouth.

"Well, I need to shop for that perfect outfit. This coming Thursday will be my first day at the bank. How about you?" I asked and reached for a strip of crispy bacon.

"Wow! Talk about making impressions. Who knows you might meet someone really cute so that you may start forgetting Zeke," she teased.

"Whatever! Look who's talking?!" I retorted shaking my head. Zeke was my first and last boyfriend. (Hopefully not that last as in last. But since I have no one now, he is officially the last at the moment.) We got together in sophomore year in college and broke up before graduation. He was the handsomest guy in the university and surely knows how to make someone feel special. Unfortunately, the relationship turned sour. Things just did not work out. I guess we were both immature then. More of he was. Duh! He was too jealous and he found me so demanding. And Alyssa, she broke up with Matt during our third year, when she found out that he was a good for nothing two-timing stupid jerk. Great we had each other to lean on all the time.

"Hey! I said I was going with you," Alyssa said while playfully throwing a crumpled table napkin at me.

I smiled and threw it back at her. She sure knows how to bring me back when I tune off.

---

"What do you think of this?" I asked going out of the fitting room wearing my fifth or maybe sixth suit. "Is it too dressy?" I added as I made a twirl in front of her.

Alyssa shook her head saying, "I like it and the second one you tried earlier."

We went out of the last shop realizing that we can no longer carry another bag. Shopping is really our thing.

"I am famished!" I blurted. I got too tired from going around the shops and fitting too many clothes and shoes. Well, not to forget the matching accessories of course.

"Let us have some steak and mashed potato!" Alyssa said beaming.

"With buttered corn, a tall glass of iced tea, and a slice of blueberry cheesecake," I added to complete our favorite meal. We are both lucky. Despite our appetite, our figures remain great I dare say.

"Hmm..." I said as I savor the last bite of my blueberry cheesecake.

"I am going out tonight," Alyssa said as she gestured for our bill to a waiter passing by.

"New boyfriend?" I teased.

"Not yet. His name is Tom. He is with me at the ad agency," she revealed.

"Is he cute? A charmer? Hmm... sexy? How long have you been going out?" I probed.

"Easy, girl!" Alyssa said laughing as she handed our payment to the smiling waiter. Since the money was enough with a little tip, we stood up and made our way to the exit.

---

"I am just too tired, Alyssa. I think I am just going to sleep until tomorrow morning. Have a great date!" I said. I put down all my shopping bags inside my walk-in closet then pulled off my clothes one by one and got into my casual tee and shorts.

"Alright," Alyssa said. She gave me a peck on the cheek and left my room.

I lied down comfortably on my bed. Lucille has a way of maintaining the freshness and beauty of things. Oooh... the smell of lavender.

I love everything in my room. From the gold and white curtains, cute heart pillows on the couch in front of my flat TV, to the well-arranged make up sets and perfumes on my dresser. I so love it. I turned on my iPod and Heart's Alone blared on the speaker. I closed my eyes and dozed off without finishing the song I think as it was the last thing on my mind, unless of course I had it on repeat.
