Time flies so fast. I am now looking in front of my full length mirror and examining how I look with my mustard suit and caramel two-inch heels. I wore natural make up highlighting my lips with my favorite Mary Kay Hibiscus lipstick. And my hair, it falls down straight to my shoulders.

At times I get surprised by random messages from Zeke. Just this morning I got this...

Zeke: Hey big time! I heard it's your first day in the corporate world today. At least, one of us is fulfilling the dream to be out in the city...

Alex: Not that it was my choice you were left behind. I replied dryly.

Truth be said, we broke up before graduation when Zeke chickened out in fulfilling our dream to be together in the city. We planned it out. We will be renting two apartments beside each other so that we could literally see each other every day. Then we will have breakfasts and dinners each day together. We will go jogging every morning and we will go back to Baguio every weekend. I should have known that that plan was too good to be true. Such a perfect plan. No flaws. Purely committed. Damn! Then he was giving up on the dream and at the same time too afraid that I might meet someone new. I told him that if he does not want to be consumed by his self-made monster jealousy; he should really be going with me. And that is when he said I was always demanding. That if I truly love him I must choose him and should just swallow my pride and stay with him. I was awakened from my recollection when my phone signaled for an incoming message.

Zeke: Hey, easy sweets. Just wanted to say good luck. I am sure you will pull it off. :-)

Sweets? What was he thinking? I did not know what else to say.

Alex: Fine, thanks then.

Zeke: Miss you so bad... hugs.

Alex: Stop it... I will be late now.

That fool! He had his chance and now he is trying to be oh so sweet. Made a mental note not to forget to discuss this with Alyssa. That is when I received another message.

Zeke: :-( my baby does not miss me... </3

I did not reply anymore. It was too much. I don't want to spoil my day. Come on... my first day. I frantically searched for my car key and off I went.

Then there I was being introduced to my co-employees and the management. I saw a few guys smile and some eyes twinkling. And did I just see some jaws dropping and some drooling as well? La la la la la... I felt like I was the hottest chick in the office that moment. However, some girls raised their eyebrows, as if threatened by my beauty and freshness. Huh! Spell confidence. A L E X. Now I realize why Alyssa loves the lime light.

I was sitting on my desk; yes I do have my own desk. I even have a computer with flat screen monitor and my own printer, okay so I am sharing it with my co-worker, Dustin. I am now reading a seven-inch thick manual. I go through the pages listlessly. I was more of waiting for the moment that I would work hands-on. But come on this is my first day. After the chat with my boss over lunch, he made me go to my desk to spend the whole afternoon reading.

I did not notice Dustin, Senior Analyst, walk behind me.

"Hi! How is it going?" He asked kindly.

"Well, I am very much interested with what I am reading," I said trying to hide a smile then went back to my manual.

He let out a laugh, "Come on you could be honest with me. I went through that and I swear I did not have a single definition retained in my brain."

"Ummm... I see. At least, now I know I am not alone. Thanks for confirming that I am after all normal," I said laughing. "But there is nothing else I could do yet," I added.

"Yes, for starters a month is designated for reading. Solely reading."

"Four weeks? Seriously?" I blurted. That moment I wanted to run away. I did not get a degree to read manuals.

"Last time I checked, yes a month is composed of four weeks." He laughed hysterically but added , "I was kidding. My bad. Two days actually." He was still smiling. He might be cute when he smiles.

I just sighed and made a face. It felt good that I am already comfortable with my team mate or whatever you call that person with you in the department who is not your boss.

"Well, if you have any questions you could always come to me," Dustin said smiling and then he returned to his desk.

---

"Alyssa?" I called out as I entered our unit.

"I think she is taking a shower," Lucille said.

I could smell delicious aroma coming from the kitchen; where Lucille hurriedly went back after welcoming me.

I went to my room and removed my shoes. I lay down on the couch to relax my back. I think my neck is stiff from bowing half the time looking at the manual.

"Dinner time," Lucille called after a few minutes. I think I fell into a ten-minute power nap.

"Okay," I said and hurriedly went to my closet to change.

The led indicator of my phone caught my attention. I got it from the side table where I put it before I relaxed a bit. I have several messages.

Alyssa: Hope your first day was okay. Will go out with Tom tonight. Talk to you in the morning.

Zeke: Got no reply for me still? :-(

Mom: How was your day dear?

I replied to Alyssa and Mom only before going out for dinner with Lucille.
