His favorite color's green.
One time, during English class, he showed us a picture of him in his teenage years. He wore green braces back then. "That's my lucky color, right there," he said, pointing to his picture flashing on the screen. He told us all the reasons why he likes green. Here are some of them (I wasn't able to copy everything because he talked too fast and it would be really awkward if he saw me writing the reasons down. I mean, who else would be interested in his mediocre life other than me?)
- He's a Harry Potter junkie and he fell in love with Slytherin right from the start. But when he took a Sorting Hat quiz, he got sorted into Gryffindor. That explains why he was able to scare off the thug. Watch out, we got a badass over here!
- Green rhymes with the name of his childhood bestfriend and crush (OUCH). But he wouldn't tell us who the girl is. *sigh*
- He believes it's his lucky color. Back when he was 15 years old, he joined an essay writing competition called "Go Green" (I think it tackled the issues of Mother Earth), and he was wearing his dad's green letterman jacket at that time. Guess who won the competition?
- He looks good in green. Enough said.
He loves to argue.
Not only is he hailed as the 'King of Sarcasm' by my batch, he is also the coach of our school's debate team. He is a critical thinker. And like Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games, he is a good public speaker. And you know what's really special about him? He can talk his way out of things. Brain over brawn, people.
Fun fact is that he was a member of his school's debating team and half of the trophies they own came from his victories in different types of debate competitions.
Born on the seventeenth.
This is something I learned from my friend. We were both busy cleaning our lockers (hers was right next to mine back in 11th grade) when she told me about his birthday.
"Did you know Mr. Abernathy's birthday is on November 17?" I looked at my friend and saw her smiling at me.
"How did you know?!" I asked her. The teachers in our school aren't really confident in giving out their age. They won't even tell us when exactly they were born. We'd just randomly find out about it when someone does a birthday shout out to them in our PA system.
She haphazardly stuffed her books inside and then shuts her locker. "There's this girl in my class. They're really close to him and she makes it a habit to talk to him after classes. But she doesn't have a crush on him. I guess she's just being friendly. You should talk to her too! Her name's Shelley."
The bell suddenly rang, signalling the start of our first afternoon period class. "Alright," I said, "I'll keep that in mind. And thank you for the, uh, information."
We had that conversation 3 days before his birthday.
And you know what he wanted at that time? An Edgar Allan Poe collection. But sadly, I didn't have the money and courage to buy him one. I mean, he would get creeped out if I just gave him that thing right? He'd think of me as a stalker.
Which is what I am.
His sister's beautiful.
A tall, slender body, flowing chestnut hair, and eyes with a mixture of light green and light blue. I feel a bit uncomfortable describing her like this but I'm telling you, she is really beautiful. I met her during one of our school's fair.
"Alyssa, there she is!" I heard Mr. Abernathy say.
I was faux admiring a random booth, trying not to look like an awkward loner in the sea of happy people, when I felt someone tap my shoulder. I turned around and saw Mr. Abernathy and his sister, his oh-so-beautiful sister, smiling at me.
"So, were you the girl who punched that thug?" Alyssa asked. She was beaming at me and I felt really intimidated. And ugly.
Two gorgeous people standing right in front of me. I was ready to faint.
I looked at Mr. Abernathy and saw him wink at me. So he told his sister about the thug incident. But why did he make me the hero?
I guess I should just play along.
"Umm yes," I replied in a low voice. "But uh...Mr. Abernathy helped me. I mean, he beat up the guy too. Pretty hard." I gave a nervous laugh and felt my eye twitch. God, I must have looked stupid to them.
"Ah no sweetheart," Mr. Abernathy denied, "she was the one who took care of everything! I was going to help but when I came outside, the man was practically in pain already." He then made funny facial expressions and I felt a bit ashamed for him. It was only funny because he made himself look ugly. Can I say 'Hahaha'? Ok then. HAHAHA.
"Oh that's interesting," his sister said, flipping her hair shiny hair back. "Hopefully, I'll see you in my Taekwondo class soon."
And I swear, I feel like Bella Swan describing Edward Cullen here.
She then excused herself from us, probably to check the other booths. Mr. Abernathy came closer and told me, "You really should enter yourself in self defense classes."
I smiled and saluted him. "Yes sir!"
He has his father's eyes.
I never got the chance to personally meet Mr. Abernathy's father, but I've seen him in some of the pictures he would randomly show during his class. Both of them have hazel green eyes that changes to topaz when exposed to sunlight (I don't know about his father, though). Their family is just....wonderful. His parents both taught in Harvard and his sister is just pure awesome.
I will never have him, I know that.
He's just out of my league (and wow, I'm talking like a guy here).
Well, this is the ending of my story. Did you expect some steamy romance between a student and a teacher? I'm sorry, but that's not really possible in the real world. Well, not in my world. I come from strict Catholic family. Besides, if my father finds out that I have a crush on someone who's twice my age, he'd go berserk.
He's not yet prepared to see his little girl grow up.
The purpose of this story is just...I just wanted to let out my feelings so I won't feel like I'm carrying the weight of the world anymore.
So thank you. Thank you for hearing me out.
And if HE asked me if I loved him...
I'd lie.
