I'll start on a Friday in November. My year threw a party to fund our prom, which is a thing you do in Germany. I mean and it's of course a nice reason to have a party in a club, while most people are still underage. It's called a 'VoFi'.
We were in the middle of the preparation phase for the important last exams of that semester, but obviously we all still had to go anyways. For that evening several schools had partnered and therefore the expectations were huge. It was supposed to be the party of the year. I was looking forward to a fun night with my friends.
We had met early that evening in a group of four at my friend Jaqueline's place to get ready. Jaqueline, Lara, Amelie and myself, Kati. We drank cheap sparkling whine and changed at least five times each, before we found the appropriate outfits. The room was a complete mess afterwards. We danced silly and foolishly through the room, listening to a Spotify partyplaylist, while Lara was going on about a girl, that supposedly was trying to steal her boyfriend Philip. We encouraged her, that the girl was a stupid bitch, although I admittedly didn't even know that 'bitch', but we just stuck together no matter what.
Amelie had just gotten together with her new boyfriend about two weeks ago and so we obviously analysed their dates in detail and adviced her regarding the next ones.
Meanwhile Jaqueline was crushing on Moritz from her German-class and wanted to set me up with his best friend Lukas, or rather tried to arrange a double-date. I didn't stop her, although I wasn't really interested in Lukas either; but a bit of change would be good. I had just recently broken up with my first boyfriend. I wasn't exactly dying of heartbreak, but I also wasn't great.
We had been dating for roughly four months and it did not really help to see Richard every week at volleyball practice, especially cause he ditched me and not the other way around. He wanted something serious and I apparently was not mature enough. As if an age gap of two years and the fact, that he already went to university made that big of a difference. Anyhow that evening I did my best to forget about him, because Mr. Grown-Up certainly wouldn't attend a VoFi, a bunch of teens went to.
In short, we were all ordinary teenagers from 16-18.
Shortly after ten we took the bus into town with two more bottles of sparkling wine for the journey. I was wearing way to high heels and shivered in way to thin tights. I had curled my hair for approximately half an hour, my eyes were graced by two relatively even wings and multiple layers of mascara. My three friends looked similar. Short dresses or skinnyjeans and one pair of heels was higher than the next one. Despite the temperatures below zero Jacky was wearing a cropped top beneath her coat.
After ten minutes of waiting in line, that seemed like an eternity, we finally got in. Jacky had quickly bought us a round of shots, ultimately she was the only one of age. A few minutes later it was also Jacky, who started the events, that lead to me having something to write down in the first place.
Unerringly she located Felix in the crowd. It was obvious, that he was older, than pretty much everyone else. Rather in his early twentys, than just turned 16 and that clearly made him interesting. Within a single song Jacky managed to get her way to him and begin eyecontact, while lasciviously dancing. Out of lack of alternatives I followed her; Amlie and Lara had left us in favour of their boyfriends. I desperately looked through the room searching, but didn't find any of my friends. Involuntary I witnessed the show up closed, while I moved to the rhythm of the music by myself.
There went my cheerful, fun evening with friends. Within moments Jaquline and the older guy, who would change my life forever, where all over each other. After the next song they went to the bar and I pathetically accompanied them, looking like an idiot. I started regretting coming to the party already.
