{II:9} Demon

43 9 7

The night descends like a black cloak
The wind so still that even the stars
Don't dare glow in the dark,
Then they come.

One after another
All matter without substance
Looming darkly with the black of the night
Roaming sinisterly, the Earth.

Creatures of the night
Perpetrators of the dark
Haunters of dreams
Demons of the soul

The demons in dreams
That plagues the mind.
Demons lurking in shadows
Dreams dark and full of terrors.

Drowning the mind in fear
The heart racing in miles
Perspiration running like a river
Screams pouring from scarred throats

The shadows are their abode
Obscured from the light of day
Casting no reflection
Yet leaving an imprint

The creatures of nighttime
What are they?
Demons? Or Illusions?
Or substance and matter?

Waiting just beyond the dark
Waiting to strike
And strike more than just the mind
Haunt more than mere dreams

Bruise deeper than the soul
Wrench callously the heart
Drown the spirit in despair
Leave the body a sack of dust

Demons sent from hell
Sent to create chaos on Earth
Under the guise of illusions and nightmares
Until not even blood is left

Now even the light of day
Holds no barrier to evil
That every man for himself
Watch over his own shoulder

For no one knows
Who the next person can be
An angel of blessing?
Or a Demon in guise?

Tophie's Note

Double updates in a day! And a fresh one too! I just wrote this now: 10:59pm.

This poem has its roots in a story by a Bestie of mine that I read today. The lines in italics were not originally mine but borrowed from the last line of the latest chapter: Illusions, and from a comment from another dear friend who commented on that line. I recommented on that and that was how the idea of Demons took root.

Now that it has blossomed into a poem, however thornful its roses might be, what do you make of it?
I'd love to hear from you!!

Thanks for all the votes and comments!!

Book: Crown of Glass.

I'd like to dedicate this poem to the two people who planted the idea.

I couldn't find DAARES so I hope this is you.

Thank you Ellis and Alisha!
