Twenty years earlier:

Cold. Cold was the first thing Anna could feel, next she could hear her mother's voice, soft and loving.

"It's time for bed, honey, you can't sleep down here again, plus, you'll miss giving Charlie her goodnight kiss." Came the gentle voice of her mother, she picked up the small girl that was sprawled across the couch.

"Mommy~" Anna whined, " 'M sleepy." She rubbed at her eyes and yawned as she was carried upstairs, her mother humming and gently rocking the small girl. Betty (the mother) carried Anna to Charlie's nursery at the end of the hall, in the room Dale (the father) was holding the baby in his arms, singing her a lullaby in hopes of soothing her.

"There you two beautiful ladies are," Dale smiled and pecked his wife's lips, "I think she needs her night kisses from her favorite sister." He teased and kissed Anna's forehead.

"You're silly, daddy." Anna giggled and looked at Charlie with big eyes. "Goodnight, Charlie." She smiled brightly and Kissed the infant's tiny nose.

"You seem to be handling everything well," Betty chuckled and switched kids so she now had Charlie in her own, "but it's your turn to put Anna to bed." She kissed Dale's cheek. "I love you two." She smiled.

Dale nodded and sighed in content. "Of course it is, sweetheart." He chuckled and took Anna to her room at the other side of the hall. "Now, you're gonna go to bed like a good girl, right." He set her down and picked up a small stuffed fox and handed it to the girl.

"Yes, daddy." Anna giggled and took the toy, looking under her bed for her favorite book when she heard a small groan then gagging. Her head shot up and her eyes focused on her father.

Dale was standing in the center of the room, blood dribbling from his mouth and a sliver blade through his gut. "A-Anna, g-get m-mommy." Was the last thing he was able to get out before his body collapsed on the ground. A tall man stood in his place, outlined by the darkness.

"Hello there, child..." The man muttered.

Anna instantly made a run for the nursery, tears streaming down her face and her whole body shaking. "Momma, momma! There's a monster!" She sobbed and pulled her mother's gown.

"Darling, what's wrong?" Betty asked, her face filled with concern as she stepped into the hall. A full black figure the size of the door stood in the doorway of Anna's room, Betty sucked in a shocked breath and picked up both children and ran.
