Prologue

"Maia! Where are you?" 14-year-old Charles shouted.

Maia seemed lost in her thoughts while picking at bright pink tulips. The cool summer breeze fanned her hair, the smell of the glossy green grass tickled her nose. She thought of how beautiful the tulips were. She has always been amazed of how tulips could come in different colors!

Tucking her chestnut blonde hair behind her hair, she turned around to look at Charles.

"Hey, what's up?" Maia looked up to his chocolate eyes that were sparkling with curiosity. For his age, Charles was tall.. and handsome. His freshly cut raven black hair framed his face very well. His jaw was defined, nose as sharp as knife and eyelashes that should belong to a girl.

"I was looking for you so we could play hide and seek!" He was freakishly childish, he can pass off as a 16-year-old yet he chose to run around and hide.

Well, hide and seek in Charles' flower garden has been a tradition among the three of them. Charles, Elliot and Maia. Ever since they were toddlers, their parents would meet up and leave them be in the garden.

"Charles! Have we started?" The two turned to the source of the voice. Elliot walked casually, his huge round spectacles hanging low. His checkered shirt was unbuttoned, showing a cartoon inner shirt. His jeans fell loosely to his ankles.

"We haven't. Our dear Maia has been daydreaming about flowers... Again!" Charles said, emphasizing 'again'.

Maia rolled her eyes at him. She crossed her arms and frowned deeply. 'Why are they being so judgmental?' She thought.

"Are you going to be a flower scientist or something? Come on, let's play!" Elliot exclaimed.

Maia decided to let it go. They have been friends for a long time, she would not want to lose it just because of a small thing.

"Okay, I'll count..." Elliot said.

Charles beckoned Maia to come to him as he started walking away. Maia shook her head and decided to take some time to think of where she should go.

"1...2....3..." Elliot muttered.

Maia dashed into the field of butterfly bushes and hid behind the tall colorful bushes.

"Here I come! Don't let me find you too fast,"
