He laughs. He knows it's pointless. But he has to try. He has to stop The human. If he doesn't.... well, he's seen it before. He's seen it a million times before. The human falls down. They kill everyone. They beg forgiveness. They do it all again. He can't count how many times he's seen his own brother die. He thinks The human has made a game of it by this point. Once they even got past him with only a stick for a weapon and a bandage as armour. Not that it makes a difference. He knows that no matter what he does, The human will win. The human will kill him. Still, he has to try. Maybe this time he can get through to them.
He offers to spare them. He knows it's useless. They laugh and accept his offer. He kills them. He doesn't feel happy. He doesn't feel anything. He knows The human will come back. He knows The human will kill him again.
They come back. He pointlessly offers to spare them again. They accept. He doesn't react. They come back. He pointlessly offers to spare them. They accept. He doesn't react. They come back. He offers to spare them. They accept. He doesn't react. They come back. He offers to spare them. They accept. He doesn't react. They come back. He offers to spare them. They accept. They come back. He offers to spare them. They accept. He doesn't react. They come back. He offers to spare them. They accept. They come back. He spares them. They accept. They come back. He spares them. They accept.Over and over and over, he kills them. Over and over and over, they come back. This hasn't happened before. They're letting him kill them. He knows it. What he doesn't know is why. He doesn't care anymore. He's numb. They come back. He asks why. He doesn't care, but at least then he knows. They tell him they're sorry. They offer to spare him. This is new. He kills them. He's given up on them. On whom used to be his friend. He's not giving up on what he believes in. He's not giving up on Papyrus. They come back, and immediately offer to spare him. He kills them. If they're truly sorry, they'll reset. All of it. His brother is dead because of The human. He's not going to be satisfied until he gets revenge.
They come back. They don't immediately fight. He watches them put everything in the box. Even the knife. He watches them walk over. He watches them sit down in front of them. He watches them do nothing. He sits down. He waits. And waits. And waits. He falls asleep.
He opens his eyes. The human is still there. He kills them. They come back.
He knows what's happening now, he's figured it out. The human got bored of killing him, so now they're letting him kill them. He knows it's pointless. He doesn't kill them. He doesn't offer to spare them. The human says they're sorry, that they'll true reset. He’s suddenly back in his room in Snowdin. Papyrus wakes him up. He hugs and kisses his brother, he can't believe it, Papyrus is ok. He goes on patrol with his brother that day. The human is meant to arrive. There's nobody there. He runs to the door and talks to the lady behind it. She's ok.
He calls Undyne. She's ok. He calls Mettaton. He's ok. He calls Alphys. She's ok. He calls everyone he can think of. They're all ok.He goes to see Grillby, and he almost kisses him once he sees the fiery bartender is ok. He goes to see Muffet. She's ok too, and this time he really does kiss her. Just a brief kiss, he's giddy from the excitement. Everyone is ok. He goes home, and he lies down on his bed. For the first time in decades, he sleeps soundly.
Days pass, and people notice him more. They smile and wave at him as he goes on patrol. He finds himself smiling and waving back. He notices things, too. He notices the blue of the sky, the white of the snow and the green leaves on the trees underneath. For the first time he can remember, he's happy, content, and just loving life. It doesn't get better than this.
Life goes on. Papyrus and Mettaton get engaged. Alphys and Undyne get married. The Queen comes out from the ruins and reunites with King Asgore. Turns out she's who he’s been talking to through the door. Life is good. He's happy. He starts hanging out with Napstablook more. They seem cool. He makes friends with them and they seem grateful for it. They tell him things they've never told anybody. He tells them about the resets. They become the best of friends after that. Napstablook comes round more, and he finds when they aren't at his, he's at theirs. He finds himself falling in love. He asks them on a date. And another date. And one after that.
Not long after, he proposes. They say no, why would anyone want to marry a ghost, so he talks to Alphys. She promises to build Blooky a robot body. They love it. He proposes again. They say yes. Life is great. The night before the wedding he falls into a dreamless sleep. He's smiling in his sleep, he's happy and he's content.
Suddenly, he wakes up, and he's back in the judgement hall with the human. He feels like crying.
