About 6 years ago I realised something about myself. I know it's all cliché you hear about coming out stories and they all say the same old thing of 'I realised I was different.' Or 'I was different from all the other kids in my school'. Well it's kinda true. When I was 10 this girl joined my school. She was really sporty like me and we had the same interests. I was the school football captain and I was loud and proud about it. When this girl came along I was quick to make friends and show her my team. A few weeks later we were playing tournaments together and winning games.
Then came around year 6 and I was 11. This girl, Sam, and I were really close friends. We would do everything together. Play football, eat break and lunch together. We would sit next to each other in class. Everyone called us 'The couple' and I loved it. But over hat yeah I would find myself wondering more and more what we were. We were 11 and knew nothing about same sex. We would say 'have a good weekend, love u' to each other on the play ground and no one would say anything. We would hug after games and give each other piggyback rides if we scored goals. I loved it, and I thought a friendship would be born, last forever.
As some of you may know year 6 was when we had to choose the next school we were going to go to. I was scared about meeting new people and going to high school. I. Thought that I wasn't ready, but I had Sam by my side right? No. I remember having a conversation with her outside the main hall. That was the conversation that broke my heart.
Me: so what school are you going to next year?
Sam:um...well I'm not sure. You?
Me: I'm going to PHS.
Sam: yeah well I was accepted there, but my dad doesn't want me to go there. So I'm going to AHS instead. I'm sorry.
That was the moment I realised that I'm never going to see her again. That's also when I realised I liked her. More than a friend and more as a lover.
