Godric's POV: (back to when they were outside)
As soon as she finished the spell, the flames of the candles roared, the fire climbing high into the air. I sat quietly as she fell deep into the past, I kept my eyes fixed on her face, watching her every move, every breath she let escape her lips was another second close she was to coming back to the present – I told myself to hold myself back from pulling her back to the present every time the expression changed on her face.
I had lost track of time as I sat watching her, the expression on her face, that all changed in a moment Scarlet started crying and she was shaking. It was time to get her out of that memory.
"Scarlet" I called quietly to her. When she didn't reply and she cried more I did the only thing I knew I could to pull her out of the memory quickly. With my hand, I broke both lines of salt that completed the circle and the star; I leant forwards as she fell, catching her, colder than usual, shaking, semi-conscious body whilst I whispered
"Scarlet...Scarlet, it's okay..." I paused and took a breath and studied her face, the blood tears falling down her cheeks and staining the pale plains of her face; her eyes usually bright with life and mystery and danger, were now quiet. As I went to go get her a blanket I thought of her eyes, her eyes that I would usually compare to a raging sea are now comparable to the river Styx – a body of water still as death itself.
"She meant to do it..." she whispered, as she stared blankly out into the fading dark.
"meant to do what?" I asked as I stood up pulling her gently with me
"she meant to do this to me, she intentionally damned me to this life" her voice remained a whisper as we wandered slowly towards the house, I didn't want to push her body too much right now.I didn't reply, I didn't know how to. What could be said? I set her down on the couch in the living room and added some more wood to the already roaring fire. She looked at me as I watched the flames twist and dance in endless routines that were never the same.
"I'll be back Scar..." I spoke quietly, thinking she needed to be alone to get her head around everything she had seen, but for myself, if no one else I needed to know she was okay, so I kissed her forehead. I walked over to the door and lingered in the frame glancing at her briefly. The worry in the pit of my stomach remained because she looked so fearful and confused; which was unusual for her out of all the vampires I have ever known Scarlet was always the best and masking her true feelings, there were only a few people she would let her walls down for and I was lucky enough to be one of them.
When I got to my office I could hear her pacing, the heels of her boots clicking against the floor in a repetitive and irritating manner, but if it was helping her to process then I could ignore it. I closed the door to my office finding the sound of my wife's shoes against the wooden floor of my living room harder to ignore than I first thought it would be, I went through some paperwork to distract myself from that persistent clicking sound. In all honesty, it amazes me how bureaucratic it has become to be the head of a coven, being a vampire is more political. Gone are the days that you power relied solely on who had created you and your reputation. I sighed heavily missing those, somewhat peaceful days. Just as I was about to go tell Scarlet to sit down and stop making such a noise I heard the quiet whispers of Julia's son' voice and then a similarly quiet reply from my wife.
