A small town like Riverdale was strange. From a distance, it presents itself like so many other small towns all over the world. Safe. Decent. Innocent. Get closer, though, and you start seeing the shadows underneath. Maria knew many secrets but most of the darkest belonged to her.

As she walked down the busy hallway of Riverdale High she caught glimpses of the Southside serpents looking at her. Unfortunately, none were who she was looking for.
Forsythe and Maria had many nights of going to Pop's and drinking a milkshake. They shared fries before driving to anywhere away from their homes. In a way, they were getting closer and enjoyed each other's company for once. While at school though they seemed nothing more than strangers. It was a strange cover.

The school day dragged on and soon the young Reynolds was perched on the bench table, her head tilted towards the warm rays of the sun. Fred Andrews was sat down by her legs reading the local newspaper.

"Jesus Fred, you are like an old man." Molly rolled her eyes before popping her gum. She found Fred's antics draining. She wanted to go out and enjoy the world whereas poor Fred would rather stay home.

The boy merely shrugged his shoulders before continuing reading. Maria giggled at their domestic before Alice came charging towards them and dramatically laid down on the bench, sighing.

"What's wrong?" Maria asked with very little emotion. Her eyes remained shut as she waited for Alice to reply. The young blonde sat up to huff some more before answering.

"He's flirting with other girls!" She sneered.

Maria frowned and decided to wind up her up a little longer "Who is flirting with other girls?"

"MARIA!" Alice snapped and glared at her. The young brunette rolled her eyes before slipping off the bench and grabbing her stuff with a huff. "Hey, where are you going?"

"Away from you Alice, you are driving me insane with this Hal shit!" Without another word, the Reynolds girl walked away with furrowed eyebrows and tired eyes. All her late nights with Forsythe was taking a toll on her body but she didn't want it to end.

Just as she made her way off the school site she bumped into someone. As she stumbled backwards she began mouthing off to whoever bumped into her. "Dude, what the fuck? Can you look where you are going otherwise I'll beat the shit-"

"Damn doll, no need to get nasty." A familiar voice chuckled in front of her. Maria's eyes instantly widened as she took in the appearance of her late night buddy. He was rather dazzling, his blue eyes sparkled as he gave her his signature smirk. Her breath hitched as she straightened herself out.

"Forsythe, I didn't think you'd be in today." She tried to steady her voice. Forsythe, of course, picked this up and his smirk widened as he stared at the girl in front of him.

"Nah, I'm just here to see Fred. But seeing you is a bonus," Maria had to contain her blush and stop the fluttering in her stomach. The way he looked at her made her feel vulnerable and she wasn't sure if she liked it. She felt naked under his gaze as if he's looking directly into her soul. Maria looked behind her to check that her friends weren't watching and luckily they weren't. The pair looked at each other for quite a long time. Their eyes focused on just them, their hearts beating together. Before either party could make a sound there was a shout behind them.

Maria jumped five feet away from Forsythe and looked towards the sudden noise. Alice and Fred were walking towards the two teenagers with slight frowns. "Hey FP." Fred greeted his long-term friend with a handshake and a hug. Although, Forsythe's eyes never left hers as he greeted Fred. Alice was by Maria's side watching the exchange with a slight frown.

"Hey Alice, still pretending to be something you're not?" Forsythe glanced at Alice as he spoke, he enjoyed poking fun at the Southside girl. Alice quickly glared at the man and responded with venom in her words "Hey FP, still an asshole?"

There was a small silence after the rude exchange between Alice and Forsythe. Slowly Fred smiled while looking at Maria and Alice "well we should get going shouldn't we?" Everyone nodded as they begun to turn away from each other.

"I'll see you later Maria." Forsythe gave her his signature smirk before turning away completely.

When the two girls were alone Alice grabbed Maria's arm and stared into her dark eyes "Don't get mixed up with a serpent." She warned before walking away. The young brunette seemed disturbed by the words but shook her heard. She was falling pretty hard for the Serpent boy.

If only Maria had listened to that advice.
